CreditOne AMEX Approval - $1K

Off to the garden I go butttt.....

As I stated in one of my other posts, I'm going through a BK 7 right now, filed in June, 341 meeting tomorrow, etc etc.

Of course, since filing, Credit One has sent at least three preapproval letters for their Visa card. The ones they were sending me mailers about had an annual fee.

However, I signed up for Experian's free monitoring service (you get an actual FICO there...I actually ended up signing up there while checking over my reports) and you can apparently get actual pre-approvals there. Two of CreditOne's Visa cards were there along with two versions of their AMEX product; one with an annual fee and no 5% rewards (up to $5K spend) and another one with no annual fee and 1% back on everything.

I'm looking for a card I can put general spend on - so I wouldn't have to use my debit card for small purchases anymore. I wasn't expecting more than a $600 limit at the most, which would've sufficed for what I'm trying to do here.

Got approved for $1K.

Again, off to the garden I go.

ETA: A card of theirs was also IIB.

Re: CreditOne AMEX Approval - $1K

I mean you do you by all means and I'm only posting this in case you didn't know and as a heads up. Technically it's illegal for you to apply and obtain new credit in CH7 BK until it is fully Discharged. Even in special circumstances your attorney has to wait at least until after the 341 Meeting to get special permission from the Judge for you to get a credit card. Also technically now you are required to report these new cards in your 341 Meeting as well now. But consult your lawyer and like I said you do what you're good with. Just trying to be helpful in case you weren't aware.

Re: CreditOne AMEX Approval - $1K

It is a fair point to make, and it was something I did ask him about especially since I'd been getting all the mailers. He was telling me that he didn't think it would be too big of a deal to do it right before or right after the 341 meeting. The plan is to toss them into my safe until the meeting is done and the discharge is given. I think I should be good but will definitely be keeping an eye out for anything different. Thanks for the heads up and info!

@cynicaldragon83  Your post didn't say, but I'm assuming you took the Amex with no fee, and with 1% cash back. I think this is really great news. Great win for you. I think you should never close that account. I hear good things about Credit One Bank. If I was offered the same deal, I would definitely take it.

Correct. The mailers I was getting from them were for their Visa with $75 annual fee and no rewards, and I was approved for this better one that was on Experian's site. Strangely enough, I did a prequalifcation on their own site for kicks before doing this. The only one that was popping up there was some new card they're hawking, the X5. 5% on almost everything but it had a $95 annual fee...that's the same as a "real" AMEX lol. Apparently, it seems like they're only offering the no-annual-fee version to those who are preapproved through Experian - it looks like there's also a $39 version and the $95 version which is apparently 5% CB on the first $5K then 1% after.
