My DW currently has one Visa Credit card with our Credit Union ($1900/2000)04/19 and a Gap Card ($58/200)04/19 She is an authorized user on her mothers Citi Costco ($750/9000)04/19 - Credit Union Auto Loan ($3100/4300) 07/19 - 3 HP Inq (06/19) - Scores are around 680^8 - No baddies.
Planning a trip to Cancun in mid-November, to an all-inclusive and it's directly with the resort so we will pay the major balance when we arrive. Have the cash for the trip but thought why not get a rewards card to cover it and get a bonus.
I had recently joined NFCU and my credit is way worse than hers and I was approved for a small Cash Rewards Visa ($500)
So she joined online and was offered a Cash rewards Visa ($1000) Asked for a Recon for ($5000) no luck.
Decided to Prequal with Chase but had no love there but according to her, I think, Experian account gave her a 95% chance of approval for the Chase Saphire and 85% chance with the Freedom Unlimited so decided to App for the Saphire - Instant Decline
Decided to try again for the Freedom Unlimited since it doesn't require a $5000 SL - Instant Decline
Tried the Discover Prequal site - No love.
At this point, she was frustrated and wanted to just forget it and use her Mothers Citi Costco
I Encouraged her to Call Chase and Recon she did. The first CSR was no help "sorry try later when your credit is better". Amazingly she agreed to call back again and hope to get a better CSR. With luck, she did get a very nice Lady who seemed to work really hard to get the Saphire to work for her but the Required SL was too high for them and she could only help with one of the Apps. Can't convince her to call back on the Freedom Card.
Hearing about her Mothers frustrations my DD offered to let her use her new Apple Card ( but I reminded them that foreign countries aren't too friendly with people using other people's credit cards (ask me how I know). So I convinced her to click on her apple wallet app on her iPhone and see what they would do for her - Bingo! Apple Card approval ($3,000) she's a happy girl.

One or more Credit Cards have a high balance compared to the credit line ($1900/2000) yeah it's pretty much maxed out.
Insufficient installment loan information - Only have one installment loan on her credit (07/19, $3171/$4337) 15mo paid down 27%?
Pulled Experian and reported score was 644
Freedom Unlimited 2nd App same day - Same Reasons - Reported score 628 so 16 point hit from the first App

!!Udpate!! Finally was willing to try to Recon for the Chase Freedom Unlimited this week. CSR mentioned she would need to re-submit her app for her because the recon was coming back with a decline still. She came back a few min later with an approved SL $1500! Still haven't seen a HP on her credit for it so they must have SP. Thank you Chase!
And a big thank you to this site and all those that contribute! Would have never thought a Recon is even a thing before joining these forums!
