I've had the Eddie Bauer store card from Comenity Bank since 2016.
A month or two ago I got a notice that it was being discontinued. Good through December 31. On January 1 it's gone.
No big loss. It only gives me an additional 2% back, on top of my Adventure Rewards, and it's only redeemable as store credit. Obviously I'd be at least as well off to use a 2% cash back card there. I've considered cancelling it. Only kept it because it helps my AAoA (and I know it'll contunue on my reports for up to 10 years). If I was going to thin the herd, this would be one of the first cards to go.
They invited me to apply for a new Eddie Bauer Mastercard. It pays 3% back at Eddie Bauer, 2% on gas and dining, and 1% everywhere else. Still store credit. 500 bonus points for signing up ($5.00 wooo) and 15% off my first purchase with the card.
I don't need it. If they want to give me one, fine. But I don't think it's worth a hard pull. . . .
I went to the website to check it out. See if I'm approved with no hit on my credit. I tried, and it said I needed to thaw my TransUnion report. Ok, did that. Approved for $8500. (Old card was stuck at $4000 for years, which was apparently as high as it went.) If I accept, then it may affect my credit. . . . I refroze my TU . . . then hit accept, interested to see what would happen. It seems to have gone through, took me through the process of setting up the account. I don't know if they slipped a hard pull in there, but so far it doesn't seem like it. They only got the last four of my social. 24.49% interest. (Old card was 29.99%.)
It's from something called Imprint, which is apparently a FinTech that does a lot of co-branded cards. The actual bank behind it is called First Electronic Bank, which I never heard of either.
