After 6 weeks of waiting, USPS tells me my bank-branded card is in the mail today! Of course, Elan sent me an approval email with no details on limit, etc.
After 10 years as an AU on two cards but then 2 without, my FICO scores dropped off and I cold-apped on a number of cards (so far, instant approve Discover, Blispay denied, Amex still in limbo) for my first line of credit in my own name. Figured my own bank would be a good start with 6 years of business with them, as a high earner with a good chunk of savings. Turned out they were serviced by Elan, then read on here about how hard Elan/USBank are to get a card with, and more generally that income and assets are less swaying than credit history. After getting approved for Discover, I forgot about it and wrote off the application in my mind.
Well, they say on their website they take member bank relationships into account, and it paid off! Not the best rewards structure out there, but it's a start. And I can kind of pretend to be in the Amex club until that BCE app finally pulls through.
Wooo.. Congrats and enjoy it.
Congrats on the approval and welcome to the forums!
Thanks! Just got the card in my hot little hands...$2500 starting limit, which I'm not complaining about! Discover gave me $500 and I've found it a bit hard to use it as much as I like.
And it may be vain, but it looks really nice, gunmetal with my bank's logotype on it, and not like my debit card, which is a hideous chartreuse and what their website suggested it might look like...
Congrats and Welcome!
If it is anything like my Elan Amex it comes with a concierge, travel insurance, and some other upscale features. I have not ever used any of them.
I find Elan is great to deal with when it comes to account questions. They tend to offer nice bonus offers at times..
I got mine when they were partnered with my bank long story short my bank is now defunct but Elan continues to service my account which is awesome. Thought I would add that in case your bank ever ends their relationship with Elan you should still be able to keep your account.
They were my highest starting limit as well; they continue to hold that place.
Thanks and appreciated! Yes indeed, it came with all those benefits, a nice little edge over my Discover. Don't know if I'll use them much, and I probably had them when I had the AU accounts (KeyBank/Fidelity, closed when those banks switched to issuing their own). If anything, the product protection is great. I missed that when I had a World Debit Mastercard, but debit card benefits are a relic these days.
I was a little taken aback at how old-school they are--manual underwriting, mail-only communications, and calling a live person to setup Apple Pay. It's a nice personable touch though. I love the convenience of mobile banking these days, but I much prefer dealing with an actual human when problems happen, which is why I bank with a tiny local bank.
