Congrats on the approval. For the accounts showing from 7 years ago, have you tried EE for them?
Yes... and I'm over it. I've been told 3 times now that these will be deleted only for them to remain on my report each and every time. I tried one last time yesterday, a way I haven't tried yet, so we'll see.
@Queen_Etherea wrote:So I've been frequently going to the AMEX pre-approval site just to see if I'll pre-qualify some day. Yesterday, I was actually pre-approved!! I know I should've waited until my Wells Fargo card reported a lower balance since I paid it down to $300 instead of the $781 it's reporting, but I'm just too impatient. I hit that apply button and APPROVED!! Only $500, but man does it feel good! Not sure what changed, but it might have been one of my old student loan accounts being deleted that did the trick. I still have 2 accounts with 120+ lates (from 7 years ago), and 2 accounts in collections (at least for Experian, which they pulled, and are also 7 years old).
Just wanted to share some data points for others! You can also see what other cards/loans I have in my siggy, and I use the AZEO method.
Applied For: American Express Blue Cash Everyday
CRA Pulled: Experian
Score: 651
Lates/Collections: 2 accounts showing 120+ from 7 years ago/2 accounts (medical) from 7 years ago
Approved: $500
LOVE YOU GUYS!!
Congrats.
Regarding the collections. You should be able to get early deletions from EX and TU now and EQ in October. On the lates what was the date of the DOFD?

I've tried and tried and tried some more. The DoFD is Jan 2012, even though it should be Dec 2011. TU deleted all the accounts, EX is being a ***** **** ****** ******!! I'm not even going to bother with EQ. Honestly, at this point, I'm over it. I've tried asking for EE about 4 times now, each time they say yeah ok!! and then they just update the accounts. They'll fall off in Jan and I'm ok with that. I've gotten plenty of credit cards that I wanted, and am thinking about closing my Wells Fargo Secured card, but I don't want my score to go down because of it. The secured card is $1,200, and with my limited amount of credit, it'll bring my total CL down. I've had this secured card for almost 2 years (in March) and I just don't want this poopy card that isn't going to give me anything and is holding my $1,200 hostage.
On the bright side, it is nice to know all these bad decisions were made 7 years ago!
Congratulations on the approval! Welcome to the AMEX family!

Was just about to ask how long I should wait before asking for a CLI. This is the last card I wanted, so I'm definitely going to be sippin some hot apple cider in the garden for a while. I've been using my Discover IT card in place of my debit card and just PIF on that one. Now I'm going to have to split it between my AMEX and Discover so I can get CLI on both. It's a little harder keeping track of how much money I have doing it this way, but I make sure I only spend what I actually have in my bank account. I can't believe I'm being such an adult and making responsible decisions! Feels pretty good!
A $500 starting limit suggests you are in Amex's version of "credit steps." Did you get an email from Amex stating what you need to do to get a 2X CLI?
Its unlikely you will get a CLI at 61 days although you can always try since an early request does not reset the clock. You're more likely to be successful at 181 days.

I did not receive any email like that. Hmmm I think I'll call them today. Actually, I haven't received any emails from them... I'll definitely call on my lunch break. Thanks for letting me know! You guys are amazing as always.

I would suggest calling each CRA and reaching out to a manager. Keep doing it over and over until you see it drop off. I have heard that sometimes it may take only 1 try while others have had to do it multiple times before it's gone off.

If you call Amex do not ask them about "credit steps." That is just terminology used in these forums and the Amex customer service people will likely deny any such program exists since that's not what they call it. In fact, I'm not even sure Amex has a name for the program; all I know is that Amex will sometimes approve cards for applicants with lower than normal scores, then set certain conditions that have to be met to get a 2X CLI after 181 days.
