Today, I finally decided to apply for the new checking account at Key bank and close my Wells Fargo Banking accounts.
Wells Fargo has been nothing but a thorn in my side. Banking with them since 2008. Got approved for a secured card with a First Premier charge off. Failed to graduate after 15 months due to the derogatory charge off from FP. Failed to graduate, again, after 24 months for the same reason. Paid the charge off and finally got a letter graduating the secured card from WF. Was denied a CLI due tot he derogatory FP C/O and low balance activity on the direct depsoit account.
Opened direct depsoit account at Key Bank with the $200 bonus. Was approved for the checking account and a pop-up appearred offering a pre-approved $2K mastercard. Added salary, employment, dependant information....answered security questions and was instantly approved.
I'm sure it was a HP, but maybe not since the checking account should of been an SP. Anyway.......glad to have picked up $2 CL in exchange for horrible experience history with WF. I will still keep the rewards credit card due to length of credit history....but I can now offset some of the sub-prime card with low limits like the FP $300 and Cap One secured $200. The jump in available credit will only drop my current utilization by 2%....but every bit helps.
I, probably, killed by chance, again, for an auto increase on Barclay account.....but I will take what I can get now and relax as the updated BT and balance decrease start to catch up,
If anyone else opens a Key Bank checking account and gets pre-approved....ploease post to thread.
Something similar happened with Huntington Bank for me. $200 Bonus for opening a checking followed by a Preapproved CC!
Gotta love those. Congrats! on the new bank and card!
To be honest.....It was the first pre-approval I have gotten since 2004. My credit file tanked after the a divorce in 2004-2005. Quite frankly, I am shocked since I cannot seem to get pre-approved for anything excpet sub-prime......but there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel now.
I am glad to get out from under Wells Fargo as well.
Congrats..
Congrats!
Grats on your Key Bank approval
Congrats on your Key Bank approval
Congrats!
Congrats, and I commend you on your progress. I had a similar situation with US Bank. When I was financially irresponsible they were more than happy to collect $90-$160 from me per month in late fees, but now that I'm getting my act together I can't even get a bottom level credit card with them. So, I've already transferred my direct deposit to a CU and the only reason I'm keeping the US Bank account open is because I have a LOC with them.
This is an update to original post.
I received the email notification that the new key bank online account was set up. I did log in and went on the chat with CSR asking about a CLI or a 2 for 1 account with the single HP. I was instructed to wait until the card arrived and then ask for CLI. I explained that I wanted to BT my open accounts to Key Bank. This is only $1900 and that would put my utilization (at Key Bank) at 95%. The CSR gave a phone number to call to request a CLI or apply for a 2nd card. The CSR stated that the scores and salary were high enough and she said it should be no problem once I receive the card.
She was very nice and I said thank you and hung up.
Logged in to Key Bank checking to verify opening deposit and noticed the platinum account was already set up. Opened the link to find that the approved credit limit of $2000 was raised to $3500.
NIce $1,500 boost via chat. It seems the CSR made the notation on the account and sent to new accounts dept.
Now that was definately worth the bait and switch with a HP on Equifax. Although my reporting income is $93K the EQ fico is only 659. Maybe the underwriting criteria for new accounts is low; since I got $3,500 on a 659 with 22% utilization and 1.3 AAofA and 35 inquiries.
If anybody else tries this and is successful please post your results.
