Back on December 22, I had decided to apply for the Hilton HHonors Card from American Express (no annual fee).
If approved for the card I will earn 40,000 Hilton HHonors Bonus Points after I use my new card to make $750 in purchases within the first 3 months.
After applying I got the message that they were currently processing your application. So I had called the AMEX app status phone number (thank you to Scamp for your Backdoor Numbers post). I spoke to this very nice representative who explained to me that AMEX will be sending me a form to fill out and return within the next week.
I got the letter from them and they inclosed IRS form 4506-T which is the Request for Transcript of Tax Return. The letter told me to request my 1040 return transcript for tax year ending in 2013. At this point I called back AMEX because I had no tax liability in 2013 (and I still do not have tax liability) therefore I did not have to file taxes, meaning that there would be no 1040. The AMEX representative told me to also select the box for a Verification of Nonfiling.
I faxed the form in to AMEX. About 24 hours later I called AMEX to confirm that my letter was received. The representative told me that AMEX received my fax however the department (I forgot what the name of the department was called - but it was the department that is in charge of forms) said that the form was not good and I had to resend it because I checked off the Verification of Nonfiling box.
At this point I hung up and called the AMEX Executive Office and spoke to this very nice gentleman. He said he would see what he could do about getting my application continued. He called me 24 hours later and said that he spoke to his contact in a department and that I should know the results of the card application within 7-10 business days. He called me 24 hours after that (today) and let me know that he heard back from his contact and that I should know within the next few hours.
After he called I had checked my email and to my surprise was an email from American Express New Accounts that I received about 5 hours before he called me.
The email says, "Welcome to Card Membership! We are pleased to let you know that your application for the Hilton HHonors Card from American Express has been approved. We hope you’ll enjoy the benefits of Card Membership."
Glad to finally be a member of the AMEX family!
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.

Someone is reading my mind ![]()
I was on that Amex page several times this week and seriously considering this one for my first Amex too. I'm trying to position my lineup and scores for a run at it sometime in 2015 since there's another priority taking center stage first and foremost for me in Sallie Mae ![]()
Congrats! I hear it's a nice CC!
Grats on your Amex card ![]()
Congratulations!
Congrats on the approval!
Very nice! I am waiting to hear back on the Delta SkyMiles card myself!
