My DW's credit is not the best but we are working on fixing it. She has several late payments on her student loans but she pays them. She doesn't really apply for cards (only has two Capital One Quicksilver One cards.) Her scores are TU 580, EQ 578, EX 565. So she says to me, I keep getting offers for American Express cards (I thought this was because she's an authorized user on my Hilton Honors). I say to her, this may not be the best time since your scores are not the highest. She says she wants to try at least once. I suggest to go with Navy since she has a savings account with them and she's an authorized user on my line of credit and my Gold Rewards card. So...she applied for the More Rewards AMEX....BOOM! She got approved for $10,000, $0 annual fee and 18% APR! Her biggest limit to date. Navy has really shocked me because never in my wildest dream would I have thought with her score, late payments and high utilization, that it would have happened. But Navy rocks. We will continue to do business with them. I'm glad that I found this message board. It has really helped shape my credit knowledge and way of thinking.
Congrats on the huge SL and Navy taking the chance!!
Congrats to your DW on her awesome approval!

Congrats! I was in a similar boat and decided to apply to the NFCU Amex since on my credit report suggested having at least 5 accounts. I was approved for 25K(I had to validate this twice) at 11.9%... definitely shocked in receiving such a hight limit!
3 credit cards:
NFCU Visa: 15k Limit/5k balance(just paid down from 9k)
NFCU LOC: 6k/0 balance
Military Star Card: 8k limit/4,500 balance(just paid down from 6,500
Experian: 658

Congratulations! We're cleaning up my hubs file and hoping to get him his own cards towards the end of the year. Hearing your story gives me hope for him!
Good luck I hope he gets some good cards.
