Re: Marriott Rewards

I'd say go for it now, but Chase for some reason against common sense loves the crap out of me.  I was instantly approved for a Freedom card @3k with scores in the 620 range, and (after a little lengthy verification) approved for the Marriott card with scores not much better.  CSP is on my shortlist and I'm apping for it as soon as it pops up on a prequal with them Smiley Wink

Chase is different on underwriting for partner cards.  I got turned down recently for the Freedom Card but got the United Club Card at !5k.  I bet dimes to nickels they will give you the Marriott card, especially if you are already in with Marriott's rewards program.

Your prior participation in the rewards program has no bearing on approval.

Your credit and internal score with Chase does.

What Nixon said. Whether you are a member of the loyalty program or not, has nothing to do with how Chase underwrites the application. I have gotten a several of their co-branded cards without being a member of the rewards program and the account was just created automatically.

With that being said, a big percentage is your Chase internal score as mentioned above. I was approved for the Marriott and Ink (both business cards) and on both conversation with credit analysts, my fico scores never came up (myfico EQ score at 657). Neither did the 16 inqs that is on the report. I use my CSP daily and pif most times, but every now and then let a balance roll over to the next billing cycle. I use my Freedom to pay my car insurance, and pay the monthly amount I would've paid to the insurance company. This method seems to have worked for me with them...but of course YMMV.

Be very good with your Chase card(s) and they will be very good back with you.

So maybe me pif'ing my Chase Cards over the last few months got me the $15k Club card?  I still can't get Freedom.  Will just keep checking the pre-approval link; maybe after the first statement cuts on my United Club card....

I wouldn't doubt it. Chase can be generous when you show them you can handle their credit cards well.
