Congrats @UncleB! Citi is a weird one. My DP approval (I apped from their prequal page) was 12.24% APR with a modest SL of $5600. It's grown to a little over $12k with SP CLIs while riding out the 21-month BT and making some targeted 5% purchases (on up to $500 at restaurants, movie theatres, etc.) and CitiDeals GCs along the way. Fast forward a year and a half, and they recently gave me a really low $3k SL at 24.49% for what I would consider to be one of their more premium cards (ThankYou Premier). Utilization was much lower and scores were higher when I apped for that one yet a much worse approval; also denied (with a 2nd HP) for a CLI on activation.
Edit: Hahaha 9 minutes later... I'm ashamed to admit that I've been obsessively checking daily to see if the HP language changes to the SP language. Well, it just did and I got a 50% CLI to $4,500. Don't mean to hijack the thread, but just thought it was amusing that I just finished venting about the HP CLI denial here.

They are weird, indeed. I think the same people who handle their IT must design their lending algorithms as well. ![]()
I will give them this much... back in the 90s when I knew little about credit scores I usually kept my Citibank Visa Preferred gold card near-maxed out, and as long as they got the monthly payment on time (which I was good about) they didn't seem to mind. As long as I had available credit, I always new the card would 'work'. ![]()
I also use to travel back then, and I never had a problem with my card not working even though I never gave them a call first (something else I didn't know about). These days if I was going to go more than a couple of states away I would always call ahead.
I'm sorry to hear about your less-than-stellar approval on your ThankYou Premier... perhaps they got you and me confused? (LOL) I know it's of no comfort to you, but I'm somewhat relieved to hear that I'm not the only one with good scores who is saddled with their highest APR. I've yet to see any of the promos you mention, though. ![]()
I admit my nostalgia for them is likely over-hyped, but it's also mostly harmless (and there's always the Costco option in the future). ![]()

No hijack, I'm glad to see they finally opened the purse-strings a bit for you!
Congrats! May this be the first of many! ![]()
See my edit to that post. (You saw.) Hilarious timing, really. Day 74 after approval it changed, although I think it also coincided with me meeting the SUB (which I'm proud to say I hit exclusively with 2x and 3x category spend LOL). And whatever do you mean by Citi IT? Nothing seems wrong with this screencap:
You've gotta come back with me, Marty!

Oh boy, that one's a doozy! (1899??)
It would be funny if it weren't so sad... and you're right, I shouldn't speak badly of Citi's IT department, since it's apparent they don't even have one. ![]()
