After reading this forum for hours and hours, I decided to do what others have done before without waiting for the denial letter. RECON! I followed the advice of averagejoe and sent a message explaining my credit reports negatives and my commitment to rebuild. I insisted in my desire of building a positive and long relationship with NFCU ( which I intend to honor) and I also explained the positives ( more than 15 years in the same government job with a steady income). Well, the effort pay off! I just received a message with an approval for the Platinum CC with $1700 initial CL! I'm over myself, I now went from a 900 to a 2600 total credit. I want to thank all of you for the invaluable advise in this forum, I never would have think of contacts a lender after denial if not for you guys! Now is time to garden to raise my scores! Thank you all again!
I've edited your subject to reflect your approval and started a new thread in the approvals section; feel free to edit if you would like.

Great news! When I first applied for my card they only gave me a SL of $1k. On my first cli request after having the card for 91 days, they bumped it up to $14K.
Welcome to the Navy Family.

I still can't believe! My score went down from mid 600 to 570 after I finished paying two car loans. I still have 4 collections from CC that I had in 2012 (Midland) and a BK discharged in 2009. I'm disputing the collections (at least two not mine) and this is all I needed to start rebuilding. I intent to charge small amounts (no more than 10% CL) on 3 of my 4 CC every month (Credit One will stay in the drawer) and pay off the balance at the end of the month. Once the collections are removed I should be in decent shape since my BK is from 2009. Very happy with the way I did everything! 30 days ago I did not have any CC. Today I have Credit One $400, Capital One Platinum $300, Discover Secure $200 and NFCU Platinum $ 1700... I would put it in my signature if I know how, lol...
What a great experience! Goes to show you shouldn't give up too easily, espectially when it comes to the Navy.
How did you send them the message? did you use the secure message option on the site or which email did you send the request?

CONGRATS on your Navy approval!!
Have you given any thought to just closing that Criminal One card? If you do, it will still report as a positive TL for the next 10 years. And, you will still have 3 CC's reporting as well ![]()
@FA21 What were the steps you took to re-con?
