I joined NFCU on April 18, mostly because I wanted the Flagship.
I put $5 in a savings account and that's the extent of my relatoinship with Navy Federal.
People here advised against applying for the Flagship as a first card with them, so I figured I should try something else first?
Not that I really need another 2% back card, but it's a foot in the door.
I was going to wait 91 days. . . . 43 days was all the patience I had, and I hit Submit on the app.
$25k - My largest SL ever. Tied with FNBO Evergreen as my 2nd highest CL.
I did get the highest available APR, yay me. Still lower than most of my cards.
I was wondering if I'd get approved at all. Hoping for at least $5k so I'd get the 2% cashRewards Plus rather than the 1.5% cashRewards. 25k was unexpected.
TU FICO 8 is 763. I was 0/6, 2/12, 5/24 on new revolving accounts. 0/6, 1/12,
/24 inquiries.
6% aggregate revolving utilization, which combined with my loan for the Corvette is too high for my income of 81k.
I only thawed TU, not because I wanted to hide the other reports, but because that seemed to be all they were interested in and I was being lazy.
I think there's a $250 SUB for spending $2500 in the first 3 months. So that's 10% back, in addition to the 2% back it gets all the time.

Outstanding SL and start to your Navy relationship, congratulations on the approval!
Nicely done!! Congratulations on your Approval!!👏🏼🍾🥂
Yes, advisable to not apply for the FS first.....though with good account management you should no issue getting that as your 2nd card
Congratulations and an excellent SL! Enjoy.
This is one of the best BT deals out there: 1.99% for 12 mos, no addl. fees. Move over the higher interest cards ![]()
Congratulations on your approval! That's a fantastic credit line for just starting out with NFCU. The Flagship card is an excellent card too. I have both as well as the Platinum. I would a few months before applying for the Flagship. Also if you don't care about the sign up bonus for the Flagship, you can product change the cash+ rewards to the Flagship. I'd wait to go that route until you got credit for the cash rewards sub.

I'm planning to take advantage of some of that. I would have done it yesterday, the opportunity was presented. But I didn't know, and couldn't quickly find, if there was a balance transfer fee. Knowing now that there is none, I'll hit that when the card arrives.

That's something I've been contemplating today. If I get the Flaship, it gets 2% back just like the cashRewards Plus, so I won't need this card any longer. So I could just PC to the Flagship later and not have another inquiry or new account on the record. On the other hand, the Flagship has a nice SUB, so I could get that, then maybe cancel the cashRewards Plus or maybe PC it to something else. I don't know if they'll combine CL or not, like if I have two $25k cards, can I combine that into one $50k card and close the other? There are things I don't know about NFCU that I need to find out.

As a rule they no longer combine limits or otherwise allow credit limit to be shifted between cards but at least until fairly recently they would consider shifting some limit on a case-by-case basis between existing cards if it were needed to facilitate a balance transfer.
Part of the rationale for the blanket recommendation to not apply for the Flagship as one's 1st card is the multiple data points over time that support the belief that NFCU tends to give a more generous starting limit with one's 1st card than additional ones, combined with the Flagship's $5K minimum SL. Note: I'm a data point that demonstrated this isn't always the case.
A few other things you'll want to keep in mind:
- Maximum CL on the Flagship is $80K, on the Cash/More'/Go Rewards cards it is $50K.
- You can have up to 3 open cards, maximum conbined CL across all cards is $80K. They occasionally screw up a CLI such that you have a combined CL over $80K with the but when they catch their mistake (usually within 1-2 days) they claw back enough of the CLI to reset the combined CL down to $80K.
- The 1 CLI per 6 month rule is tracked for each card individually, getting a CLI on a card tomorrow doesn't mean you have to wait 6 months to be eligible to request a CLI on any card of theirs you hold.
- $8K is the maximum amount they will approve for a CLI request.
Congrats on the approval, that's a top tier SL for one's 1st card from them.
Big win with this approval and SL. Congratulations ! Go Navy ![]()
