Re: New to the Forum But I got Approved too!

I still need to learn some of the terms. Gardening? I will go though some of the older threads and look it up. I don’t want to be rude and ask for someone to explain that one to me. But thank you for the solid advice.

Gardening is where you just stop applying for credit. Let your accounts and inquiries age so your profile can strengthen and you look better to lenders.

First thank you for sharing that. I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve been seeing that all around but could never figure it out. Thank you so much for sharing it and even sending me the link. It all makes so much sense right now. Thank you so much.

Congratulations,

Sitting tight with a tasty Chase Freedom out of the gate and Discover being interested.... That said.. the quirky Miss Disco will come around ... Do use the card... You might need to go for another disco in a year to get the tastier CLs and CLIs but stick with it for now...

As others suggested, Garden =)... Because Chase tends to be bit skittish but obviously they saw something they liked in your credit profile...

Though i will repeat the warning.... Please, do not succumb to temptation.. ride it out for at least 6 months, if not more.... If discover likes what they see, its very possible you get an autocli after your third statement, but still wait for 6months or more to see what happens...

Re: New to the Forum But I got Approved too!

Thank you so much for responding and for the information. I was going to apply for the Apple Card but for some reason it just wouldn't go through. I got stuck at the part where it wanted me to take a picture of my license. I think it was something **looks upwards at the sky** trying to tell me....STOP YOU FOOL!

Now, I'm glad it didn't go through. I will fight temptation, even though American Express did say I was prequalified for a few cards and I've always wanted Amex in my wallet too!

TEMPTATION!

**sits on hands**

Somebody stop me! Please!

**throws keyboard out of window**

Re: New to the Forum But I got Approved too!

$8500... You didn't just get in with Chase, you knocked the door off the hinges! 😁 My SL going into Chase was only $4500, but in time and prudent use and Chase seems to come around with sneaky automatic credit line increases. They usually don't say anything, you just sign into your account and notice that your available credit is somewhat higher than it should be 😉

As others have said, lay low with on apping for new cards for 6-9 months. Chase will be soft pulling your reports to check on what you're up to with other lenders and Chase is known to get skittish, especially on thin profiles like yours.

As far as Discover, they'll come around with a little use. Now that you have that Chase credit line reporting, they should try to get up in the same neighborhood in time. Use Discover for one of your normal expenses that you pay cash for already that will be in the $200-350 neighborhood and pay it off monthly. This should give them the hint that they need to grow to land a wallet slot. In the mean time, keep Freedom for a daily driver unless Discover has a 5% category that works for your spend.

Keep Credit One for a few more months, but after you get your 3rd prime card, kick them to the curb, as you will no longer need them (and their fee's) for optimal credit scoring.

Come garden with us and share in some laughs and small talk!

Re: New to the Forum But I got Approved too!

Why thank you for your kindness and sound advice. I will definitely lay off of applying for cards. I like to make micro payments once a week on all my credit cards and work like that. Then I make a bigger payment once a month while making micro payments. My daughter who is an authorized user does the same on the Disco. She makes weekly
$50 payments. I hope that’s a good strategy. I hope 🤞

Sonya,

Slow & steady wins the race,  take your time,  don't apply for awhile... use both cards and pay them timely, trying to not keep any balance or small balances for several months..... ( under 9 % ) ... if anything work Discover for credit line increases now and then, ( they are soft pulls ).

Don't risk what you have achieved with Chase,  ( it's a great starting line with a great bank ) and let your credit age..... and watch it grow.... and you'll get large starting lines in the future,  rather than small ones now, or credit hits & declinations now.
