Pulled the trigger and applied for the PayPal Extras MC...

Applied on my phone, got the request to call in and complete my application. A nice gentleman asked me a couple of questions and sent a code to my cell phone which I gave to him.

Then he said, " I have really good news for you you've been approved for the MasterCard with a limit of $600. Welcome to the family! " He also been said that my MasterCard should arrive in the mail within the next 7 to 10 business days.

I was specifically trying to get a card to use in an emergency because I'm doing a lot of traveling this upcoming year for business and I'm still rebuilding my credit. I didn't think that another card would be prudent at this time.

What confused me was what I went to my PayPal account this morning it said the SmartConnect.
The representative I spoke to yesterday said several times " MasterCard MasterCard " so is this usual? Will it switch to the MasterCard instead of SmartConnect once I get the card activated?

So, why would the representative go through all that trouble to tell me that I had the PayPal extras MasterCard at XYZ limit and that my card will be arriving in 7 to 10 days? More than once too. That's...lying....and I don't think that he had a reason to lie.

It just seems really really strange to me.
I'm going to give them a call now, and see what they say.

Wow! I would call them to confirm. But, it sounds like you were approved for the Smart Connect instead. You will get that if you're not approved for the MC. I can't believe the rep did not tell you. It's hard to believe he did not see that on his screen.

I just called them: it's definitely the MasterCard and the rep I spoke to in Credit Solutions says that it sounds like it was a glitch or something that's showing the Smart Connect to me in my PayPal account. She reassured me that my MasterCard will arrive in 7-10 business days.

Two reps, same thing: I guess we'll see when/if the MC arrives.

With that limit it certainly sounds in line with their Smart Connect card but I've seen a couple of approvals for the MC version with scores similar to yours..  But like others have mentioned, when you app they'll try for the MC and if you don't qualify then it automatically tries for the SmartConnect.  And their is no way to specifically request which card you want.  But here's the thing...even if for some reason you don't get the actual MasterCard you can still make it work.  Just apply for the PayPal debit card (which will be a MasterCard) and link it to your SmartConnect account.  Everytime you swipe it just takes the money SmartConnect line of credit.  So my point is, regardless of which account you end up with, you can still make it work as the PayPal Debit card can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.  And if I'm not mistaken, the PP Debit Card pays 1% cash back on purchases.

TU is currently 725. I've had a PayPal business Debit card for years, so I'm familiar with that.

With that score you I'd think you'd be getting the MasterCard.  But if you're already using your SmartConnect with the PayPal Debit card then I don't you'd gain or lose anything regardless of how this shakes out.  I guess the MasterCard would allow for car rentals (and may some hotels) which is about the only industries I can think of at the moment than frowns on debit cards.
