Question about BCP cli upon activation with a high starting limit

Hey myficoers, I have a question(s).

Okay, I just applied and got approved for the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card two days ago and I'm impatiently waiting for that sexy card to arrive in the mail. I was immediately approved for a limit of 16,000 and I've been reading around the boards and it seems that many are getting 3x cli upon activating the card. Some don't but some do.

What would be my chances considering my starting limit is on the higher spectrum? I don't want to appear greedy because I'm happy with the limit but you know how us myficoers are about the luv button -- it's our healthier addiction. Smiley Very Happy

If not increased on activation, I've been reading about this 61 day thing. What would my chances of 3x cli at day 61 or should I stay modest and request 2x limit or heck just an extra 4,000 for an even 20,000?

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Question about BCP cli upon activation with a high starting limit

I think we are seeing less and less CLI's at activation. I tried and was told that I needed to wait the 60 days after activation. I tried at 61 days and got my 3x CLI.

I would wait.

CLI at activation are pretty much dead as Amex apparently has returned to requiring you wait 61 days

Re: Question about BCP cli upon activation with a high starting limit

I would definitely wait for the 61 days. That way they will have a little history of usage and that definitely makes things easier. Congrats on the nice approval.

I had a credit limit increase upon activation but that was 3-4 months ago. Don't know when it stopped

Re: Question about BCP cli upon activation with a high starting limit

Hmm, the general consensus tells me to wait 61 days and that is EXACTLY what I will do. Still wondering about how much to ask for that will get approved or do they counter offer? Thanks everyone that already answered, much obliged. Smiley Happy

I'm in a similar boat with a less spectacular but good SL. I'll be waiting the 61 days, and even then I think I'll only go for 2x or less.

I can tell you for fact I tired on my Amex delta card 45 days after having it and was turned down. Letter in the mail stated account not open for 60 days.  Now I have to wait 90 days to try again 🙁.

Ouch! Lluvspl, sorry to hear they reset the clock on you. I'm going to be good about this and just wait 61 days and be modest about my request. I already have plenty to work with without hurting my utilization.

Thanks myficosquad!!

Re: Question about BCP cli upon activation with a high starting limit

I'm pushing the LUV button today as I've reached my 62nd day since opening the BCP card. I'm still wondering about the amount I should request without triggering the "need documents" spiel.

As mentioned when I first started this thread, I was approved instantly for 16,000, and I certainly shouldn't ask (and don't need) for 3x that amount. However, I would like to get my first 20k+ limit.

Should I ask for a total credit line of $24,500 (500 under the 25 limit that requires docs.) or less?

Thanks in advance.Smiley Happy

P.S. In case more info is needed, I've put a little over 3k on the card and PIF twice a month. Scores are shown in my siggy.
