Re: What to apply for

You know I am going to risk sounding stupid. How do you mean did I check for offers? I take that to mean I went to the chase website and typed in my info to see if any offers came up. Should I be contacting customer support and asking them directly or doing anything else to check?

While you were in the branch, did you have any offers for CSP? The double pull is brutal - I would say if you want to try go for both.  If unsuccessful, wait until your your gets TL is 1 yr old

I didn't ask if I had an offfer for the CSP, because the rep was not telling me I was being denied for the ink. If I had gotten the ink card I would have waited for the CSP, since the initial spend requirements would have been too much all at once and I figured I would go for the csp in six months when the inqs all dropped off. However, now that I did not get the ink the csp looks good because I have put soo much of my spend on the freedom card and honestly its not worth much to me if I can't transfer to travel partners. So I think my game plan is to app for the prg and if approved go for an amex revolver either the blue preferred or the spg card and then finish up with an app for the csp. I don't see any point in waiting six months, since the inqs will have all aged by that point anyway and I figure it will be easier to explain the inqs to chase on recon than to amex. Any thoughts on which amex revolver would be better? SPG or blue cash preferred? Are they the same underwriting? I prefer travel rewards, although I could use the bonus with grocceries and the spg card I would just be interested in transferring the points to other partners not staying at spg properties this year.

So do you spend enough to support 3 different programs (MR/UR/SPG)?  Some people run into issues of not having enough worthwhile in any of them, and would have done better to focus on one.

Re: What to apply for

Have you tried cardmatch? I agree, not to wait for 6 mos but to app now. I would only app for a charge if you want one - as far as the revolvers are concerned, the question is would you need both the CSP and SPG?

Im bring optimistic that you would get both- so app for the cards you need IMO.

I checked cardmatch and for the last two months there have been no amex offers, which is weird because I was being offered it for months before and now that I have much higher credit lines and 3-4 months of additional payment history and inqs having aged over six months all since the time it was showing up, it does not show. I haven't had any negs or anything like that pop up and figure my score can only be higher than it was.

I don't really need the spg at this point I suppose, because I am focusing on UR rewards, so I will go with the blue card and get the spg at a later date (which probably makes more sense because they sometimes have higher initial rewards promos on the spg). Honestly, I do not really want a charge card with amex. I would prefer just a straight revolver, but I am concerned that since I have no relationship with them I may get denied a revolver. If I get the charge card first then I get my foot in the door and if denied on the revolver it won't be another hp and I can work on my relationship with amex.

It's up to you.  If your credit profile is strong enough you won't need the charge card but I understand the dilemma.

Good luck!

Right now my focus is on UR rewards but I wanted to establish a relationship with amex for a variety of reasons (cli, variety of lenders, back dataing, insurance against sudden devals of chase partners, buyer protection, able to buy things at costco etc) and eventually I may switch my focus of rewards programs. It gives me flexibility. I can make the initial spend requirements etc, but I would probably only use the amex cards when buying something they have a bonus for.

Re: What to apply for

Update: I applied for the amex prg and receieved an instant approval! I setup my online account, but it says it will take 24 hours before it kicks in. How do I apply for the revolver without triggering a second pull (unless its approved). Do I need to wait until my account profile is showing up online or is there a way I can pull the trigger now?

You could pull it now but there's no guarantee it will be one hp.  Your chances are good though

congrats!

Thank you lexie. If I wait until tomorrow when my account is online  will it be guaranteed no HP unless approved or will the odds be the same as if I do it right now?

I was referring to two HP's if approved - you might get lucky and get two for 1.  I would app now for the revolver
