Rebuilding Credit Excitement & App Spree!!

Hi everyone! i've been lurking around these forums for the past few weeks lately. I've always received emails from myfico but as of late I decided to come in, do research and see what it was all about. Well the first subject I read up on were recons and capitalone's executive office communication. A couple of weeks ago I applied for the capitalone quicksilver card but was denied due to having 2 current cards with them. Luckily they did not complete a hard pull & it did not affect my credit score. I was bummed however because i've had one card since 2008 with a $300 limit and the other since 2011 with the same limit. I really was looking for something with rewards and of course a better limit. After doing research on recons, I wrote a letter to the EO and received a phone call back in three days. They quickly upgraded both cards to the quicksilver cards with no pull! She stated she had to submit the CLI in for manual review and that would take 2-3 bsuiness days. I told her not a probelm, but the next day I went on the site and saw the infamous LUV button everyone raves about. I was able to hit it for a SP and received a $250 increase on both cards. So now my limit is $550 on both cards which is still low but I am greatful that I was about to get the CLI with just a SP.

And here comes my app spree:

So then I was amazon shopping for some car stuff and saw an offer for $30 back if you get approved for thier store card. Again I came back here and read up on what agency they pull and what scores they look for. According to Creditkarma my TU is currently 672 (up from 536 August 2014) and my equifax is 604 up from 577 so I decided to give it a shot! I was instantly approved for $700!! I've really been eyeing the apple watch so I did the same research for the barclays card and decided to give that a shot and was also instantly approved for $1500!!!!

The next day I was approved for walmart for $250. And I was on a total high!!!! I kept on going!!

Amazon chase card and was declined.

Barclays Regular Mastercard declined.

Discover It Card Approved $1200

Chase Freedom 7-10 Message (Don't think i'll get approved, Probably hit my peak)

Bank of America Cashback Card 7-10 Message

Finally, I found out about the SHOPPING CART TRICK!!

Jcrew approved $250 SP

Overstock $250 SP

So for now i'm done. I have to start my garden learn patience. Although I was declined, I'm really really excited that I was approved for those new cards. I'm going to read and learn as much as I can. I'm hoping that with the  discover card I can really nuture it and get some of the increases that i've read others on here have gotten. I also have thought after laying low maybe closing one of my capital one cards and then applying for it again six months later.

So there it is. Thats me. Thats my story. I'm looking forward to hearing back from everyone and continuing to grow my score.

Re: Rebuilding Credit Excitement & App Spree!!

Congratulations on the approvals, and congratulations on the denials also, you never really know until you app Smiley Happy

That also makes it clear to you that you need to garden for some time, like at least a year, to let these cards build in your file, let all the INQ age off.

Regarding the two CapOne cards, as long as they don't have an AF, I would not think about closing them. When your file reaches the stage you can look for another CapOne, these can still remain in your file, aging along as your oldest accounts, with no AF, no negatives. There are limits on the number of starter CapOne cards you can have, but at that point the card you will be apping for will be beyond the starter group, won't be part of the limit count.

Good luck!

Re: Rebuilding Credit Excitement & App Spree!!

Thanks so much everyone!!! And thanks for the advice nrb525! Both of my capones do have AF's but I thought the limit was two cards no matter what. That's why I never wanted to close them because they are honestly my two longest open accounts and I know that helps my score. Looks like I'll be gardening for at least a year!
