Did not really need it - but was curious to see if I would get one through the new system. Instant approval of $1500 increases to $13,500. I have spent just about $2500 on the card over the year - and pay in full every month. Discover has been great to me - Since 9/11 I have gone from $1000 or $1,500 initial CL to $13,500. I think I have taken just one HP in that time. Back then, I still had BK showing and credit scores were around 650 - today they hover between 710-734. Amazing - I have + $10,000 CL on almost all of my major CC - and Chase Freedom - even after a year sits at $,4000. HEHHEEHEH

Congrats on the CLI!
Congrats!

Congrats to you @changingmantra! I can't get Discover to give me a hefty limit without a HP! :-(

The first time I requested a CLI I had to take a HP. - Actually it was quite weird - I had a very rude CSR on the phone who - after pulling my CR - told me that I would never be eligible for a CLI so long as I had a BK reporting. I kept getting BT offers - and called back a month or so later - and spoke with a really nice guy. I told him that I would be more than happy to transfer balances - but I did not understand why Discover kept dangling these offers in front of me when I was not eligible to even have a high enough CL to truly take advantage of them. I told him what the woman had told me previously- and he apologize for her rudeness and the misinformation. He said he would give me a CLI -but it would be another HP, which made no sense to me, but I went with it. I got $1500, but to be honest, I never saw the second HP on my CR.
In early 2013 requested another CLI so that I could transfer about $4500, I got another increase to $5,000 and I deliberately used the entire time I had to pay off the account. I was done in 11/13. Dec 2013 - I called about a CLI and for the first time - a CSR did not mention HP - just to tell her how mucht. I asked for and received $3500. I later called back and asked if I were actually eligible for more than I asked - made another request -which they told me I had to wait on - and within an hour or so - they added another $3500 bringing my CL to$12,000. I do think that was some sort of fluke to be honest. But hey....
In 3 years with Discover - I requested a CLI several times -most times when they said a HP - I simply declined. Even when they said it would be a HP - on at least 2 occasions - I can honestly say that I did not see any HPs. With Discover - you will have to take at least one HP to start your CLI success ball rolling. Once you have a great payment history - especially if you transfer balances ... CLIs are pretty easy to come by. That has been my experience, at least.
Congratulations!
Did the on-line CLI screen propose the increase amount?
I'm looking forward to May to find out what they offer me after my temporary CLI expires and the BT is paid to zero.
Congratulations on the credit limit increase! It seems Discover is slow and steady, but definitely pays off with patience ![]()
