I noticed that there was an update to the SoFi CC application process. When you click on the Credit Card tab on the SoFi phone app (if you already have a SoFi account), there is a notice that mentions that if you are denied you won't get hard pulled, but if you are approved you will get hard pulled. This is essentially just like the Apple Card process. ALL credit cards need to be like this. This helps people trying to rebuild their credit that are too cautious to risk a fruitless hard pull. I am one of those people although I have been making great progress.
I occasionally check the Card Match tool as well and I have always seen the SoFi CC as one of my options (Card Match tool is 50/50 as it is mainly marketing so I cannot fully recommend them but they are a good tool to gauge where you are in the credit ladder), but that in addition to SoFi themselves doing soft pulls for denials I said what the heck let me go for it. Submitted my application and was instantly approved for a credit line of $5,000. SoFi pulls FICO 8 Experian and my Experian score at the time of application was 652. I have no collections, no bankruptcies, but I do have lingering settled [paid] accounts that have yet to fall off. I pay most of my cards in full to $0 before statements close as well.
For folks that have SoFi and have been considering this card but were not sure, now is the time to go for it since they confirmed they only soft pulls on denials. Keep in mind though--if you are approved it will be an instant hard pull. It does not give you the choice to accept like the Apple Card. Hope this helps.
