Ladies and gentlemen, this will conclude today's masterclass by @credit_is_crack on the Target MC. Big time congrats on the approval, and datapoints!

It's been a minute since I've posted in this section, but I have an approval to share
I was reading various posts about Target now allowing folks to apply for the MC version right out of the gate. Not having this option before was the exact reason I never applied for it (CLI's couldn't be requested, conversion may happen, etc. - I was never patient enough for it).
I've never had any type of Target card, and I don't have any relationship with TD Bank, but I will note that I had a $13k Nordy's Visa for 3 years (I closed this out 2 months ago as part of the purge).
Starting Limit: $8,000
New Accounts < 6/12/24 Months: 0/1/2 (youngest is 11 months old)
Inquiries under 6/12/24 Months: 0/0/4 (the 11 month old card was an Amex SP)
App: Instant Online Approval
Pulled: EQ (not sure which version, but score at time of app was F8 822, F9 833, and F10 809)
Average Age of Accounts: 10 years
Total Available Credit: ~$550k across 21 cards (soon to be 17)
Step 1) I created a target profile (name, address and now I have a "profile"), then I logged out
Step 2) After I logged out I was back on the target homepage, and went all the way to the bottom ("Services" category < RedCard) and clicked it. Although this was a genuine cold app, I warmed her up a bit by going thru the pre-qualify process.
I instantly got this response

I then hit the "Apply Now" button and it redirected me to the 'real' app (at no point did it ever let me select "Apply for MC version", but it had both cards as part of the visuals)

After completing the app details I get to the terms and it does show two distinct columns (terms for MC and terms for Store) and it does call out that I'll be conisdered for both (assuming MC first, Store card second)

I hit submit, it spins for about 10 seconds and Boom! This is where it told me I was getting the MC version.

I then got the approval email like 20 seconds later

All-in-all I'm quite pleased. This starting line seemed higher than I remember Target usually giving out, but I'll take it (and with the MC right out of the gate!)
WOW, this is the first time ive seen such a big sl on the red card 8k.
CONGRATS!!!!!
Congratulations on the approval and outstanding starting limit, and thanks for sharing the step by step details.
It clears up a question I had in my mind about the new procedure.
It's now clear that you might get the Mastercard version right out of the box, but you cannot limit your application to it. This is like many other cobrand offerings, where one's application cannot be restricted to the store version or to the general bank card version; the lender decides which one to give you. So in that sense it is not exactly accurate to say that one can apply directly for the Mastercard.
Great that you gave us the blow by blow.

Congratulations. Great detail and information for us on your post.
@Anonymous wrote:Welcome back! Congrats on your new card. thanks for the step by step on how it happens. I was curious about that. I hope you update your "off with their heads" thread. I'm curious to see the end game unless your signature is up to date.
Hi @Anonymous and thank you! I needed to "get it together" and stop applying like a lunatic so I took a mild break (2 years to be exact) lol I had forgotten about that thread but I will update it shortly!

Thanks @SouthJamaica glad to see you're still around
And you nailed it. Target appears to be on par with the other Store cards as I had this same experience with my Macys Amex, Citi Shell MC and BestBuy Visa.
