Yes I have been advocating for people who are interested to join ASAP because credit unions in general seem to be more likely to lend to an existing member in good standing than a member who signed up just to get credit.

Sorry, don't see it mentioned in the last bunch of pages, but is the membership a HP or SP? Can't tell whether that EQ FICO 5 pull is for the card or for membership.

I believe it is mentioned that it is a hard pull for membership and you can use that for a cc app.

@spiritcraft1, it is an EQ5 pull and most of us found that score to be 30 to 50 points lower than our FICO 08's.  The lowest documented approval was about 657 FICO EQ5.  Putting that together, I'm not sure you will be approved FICO EQ 08 648 since EQ05 will probably be even lower.

They are particularly sensitive to higher DTI ratios, high student loan debt due to how they calculate repayment, and variable irregular income like that from commissions or self-employment. (They use conservative assumptions when income varies.).  In general, they are a little conservative but I don't know about specific derogs.

Yes, family members are eligible to join after a new member is approved.

If you decide to proceed, definitely keep us posted and good luck!

I am at about 620 F05...  my thought was to join but not apply for the card yet.  By Feb or March, I should be well into the 700's.  My Wife could be the first in also, she is at 720 or so.  Both of us are at about 12% DTI.  Verified income is no issue as we are both on payroll.  Tax returns don't look great in the bottom line due to carried forward losses however.  If they are looking for stubs, we are fine.

Are you saying membership might not be approved for me?  Or the CC?

My concern was more for you getting the credit card approval so probably best to let scores rise after membership before applying. I don't think they are as strict with credit union membership as long as you can prove affiliation and get all their documents and forms completed satisfactorily.

Any idea on whether you should be an active member of the "SEG" that you used to join the CU at the time of CC application if it is some time later? How much better can a member with no status other than "member since X" be than a brand new person? I don't want to have to tie up any amount of money to stay fee free in the interim if I can avoid it.

Membership is a HP and they started asking for proof of affiliation when you become a member. You shouldn't need it after that (once a member, always a member).

Thank you.  I have perhaps three EQ INQ's but I think two go away in a month.  This process would take two INQ's in all but I would be in the door.    It seems worth a shot to be ready to pounce in March when EQ clears.  I will be looking pretty prime when the derog clouds part.  I wonder what is up with their Biz card as well.

Membership approval, experience and some DPs:

I made a little tax deductible donation to a certain 501c-3 organization to further their fine work of building trails...  9-19-20

Anniston membership app submitted, going to review. Saturday 9-19-20

Update:  Received Docusign request - Uploaded Drivers Lic., Statement, Image holding sign and SS Card - Monday AM 9-21-20

Update #2:  Received a call in early afternoon, Monday 9-20-20 and was emailed docs.  I am a member.

Additional DP's.  I was not going to go for the secured card but I asked about it.  They will not offer any lending product with any unpaid CO on record. DP #2:  After 30 days it IS a HP to add a checking account or anything else aside from a savings account.

So I am in and await a clean EQ report to go for the Signature Visa.  My DW can now join as well, perhaps I will piggyback a card in her name until my report clears up.

Re: The Anniston Tidal Wave…AOD FCU Approvals Thread

Thinking about trying for this one. Is there any approval odds benefit for not just applying for the max credit limit? It seems like they will automatically adjust it down for you if needed.

Also question about functionity. Can you link an external checking account and auto pay the credit card with it?

Re: The Anniston Tidal Wave…AOD FCU Approvals Thread

@Otto77  👋   Welcome to the forums

Credit limit increase request that are approved will result in closing out the current account and issuing a new account.  AOD usually counters a credit limit offer if one can be approved so the suggestion has been to apply for the max if you feel comfortable with doing so.

Other details, and there is a great deal of good information there, can be found in the AOD VISA SIGNATURE thread in the about Cards section...

Please read through the thread and good luck on your credit journey!

Ask for $25K, they'll counter.

You can indeed set up an external account for auto pay, just beware they will take that auto pay even if you manually pay. I got hit with my minimum payment this morning even though the card had been PIF.

Re: The Anniston Tidal Wave…AOD FCU Approvals Thread

This forum is dangerous, this thread was too much temptation for me. I applied for AOD Savings, Checking, & Sig Visa.

Does that APR mean anything? I'm worrying that I should have just applied for a $5k limit.

Do they actually call the loan references for cards? I've never had to provide that before

(Conditional) Congratulations, @FalconSteve! Smiley Happy

It looks like you (MAY) have been approved with the most favorable highest SL of $25K and lowest available APR of 7.49%!  Very few of us got both of those and the $25K limits seemed to be granted only in the earliest days of the card before they started lowering most initial approvals.   I got mine in the first couple of weeks of the card on My Fico back in April.  Hopefully, both of those will stick for you!

The loan references is part of the "old school" way they do business.  Banks used to do that routinely, but it wasn't so much to call references for approval.  Moreover, the purpose was to have other people to contact in case there were issues with the account so they could have a head start on locating you and get payment.  Or find out if perhaps you were incapacitated in the ICU somewhere, or deceased or in prison.  Smiley Tongue  They're a small credit union so in some ways they still operate like a small old-school lender, but there's a lot of good things about that too when it comes to customer service.  They've been very friendly and helpful.

The AOD bug is a good bug to catch!  Welcome to the AOD club at My Fico!
