Since I was out of the garden after buying my house, I decided to apply for a second card. I had been reading about USAA and their 5% cashback on gas purchases, and I'll be traveling A LOT over this summer while working on research, so figured that 5% back will be useful. Instant approval for an $8,000 line. They pulled Equifax, 728 FICO score. Approx 17% util across accounts, one account at about 90% util from a balance transfer offer, AAoA 2.5years.
Now back in the garden for a long while.
Congratulations!

Congrats OP!! This card only gives you 3% on the first $3k gas and 2% on the first $3k groceries correct? Why didn't you go for the PenFed Visa? 5x on gas and 3x on groceries (no limit) and $100 statement credit. Just curious
Close.
It's 5% gas capped at $3,000 as the OP correctly stated.
But the $3K cap does make other cards more lucrative. It's quite possible that the OP's first card is also a USAA card and he just wanted to keep it simple?
I had been weighing between the two, but I've already had a relationship with USAA so I decided to respond to the offer I had with them. As for the cap, I definitely don't spend $3k on gas in a year, so it didn't bother me.
Congrats. I wish USAA would allow their secured cards to graduate. I have a sock drawered secured card from them that's 5 years old now. Only purpose is it's helping my AAoA. Boo USAA...
But in your case, big congrats!
Congrats!
