After never being late for 15 years and a great credit run, disaster struck but now I'm back in the game. On January 4, I applied for a WF Autograph CC and a NFCU Flagship Rewards CC. Outcome was NFCU $20,000 CL and WF CL $1,000. After speaking with the branch and 5 reps from thecustomer service number, I got no where. WF fico score was 771 at the time of the HP. No baddies, no judgements, authorized user (which I have since removed myself from) on 2 accounts. WF customer service said I might incur a HP if I asked for a CLI so I declined and told them I wouldn't have taken even one HP for $1,000 had I have known. I thought they were a relationship bank. Help! I'm being so careful now and don't know what to do if anything can be done. These boards were so helpful before so any advice would be appreciated.

Interesting. I thought you would be able to use the same HP as it sounds so recent....

Without knowing any details about your other credit cards, this isn't too shocking given that NFCU is generally known to be much more lenient with approvals and credit limits. You were expecting a higher CL with WF because you have an existing banking relationship with them? Or other credit cards ?
Also I'm moving this to CC approvals for better visibility

WF is notorious for lower starting limits and hoping to compare what navy will give you compared to others isn't realistic
the best you can do is use the card and call in to ask for SP CLIs every 6 months

Congrats on the approvals!
Thanks for the reply! I'm still working on seeing how to set up my posts like everyone else. That is the cards you hold, etc. In the meantime I have the following: NFCU Flagship $20,000, WF Autograph $1,000, OpenSky Secured $600 (they gave me a $100 CLI automatically) opened 3 years ago, OpenSky Gold $500 (given to me without asking, unsecured) and authorized user BofA $12,000. FICO 8 EQ 760 TU 679 EX 781.
I've had a relationship with WF since 2019, not a blemish. Yes, I was expecting a higher CL Maybe I get the picture now since I'm actually looking and thinking about my cards but due to the relationship and the fact I don't have one blemish with WF plus filtering quite a lot of deposits thru them, I just thought it would be higher. 5K would havebeen ok since I have a 1K spend to get their 20,000 points.

You aren't able to add your cards and stuff to your signature yet, but when you rank up high enough, here's how you do it:

Based on my personal experience and opinion, WF is NOT a relationship kinda bank. I have 2 cards with them for the last 10 yrs with a picture perfect credit...never late...never over the limit...my Fico Score was in mid 800 across all major CBs..no new account was opened in a year...my debt was only $20 across all accounts...and WF gave me only $1k SL on Autograph card almost two years ago which shocked the hell outta me...I called many people in their credit department but no avail. I even wrote a few complaint letter to their executive office and even to CEO but no avail....I told them that they kinda slapped me for my loyalty for last 10 yrs...I mean, 10 yrs back they gave me a credit card with SL $30k right off the bat without having any relationship whatsoever and with a much lower Fico score and not even much established credit, and now when I have well established credit and satisfactory accounts with them and with other lenders and now they gave me only $1k !!! I never got any answer addressing to my questions, rather just blah blah blah....everyone was giving irrelevant and different answers. I badly wanted to close out the card right away, but then changed my mind, based on suggestions provided on this site, to keep it for a while until I earn SUB (of $300) since I wasted a HP anyway.
However, later on I ended up moving all my credit line from one of my other WF cards to this Autograph and closed down other card. I must tell you that in last 2 yrs, I got not even one CLI even though I requested a few times, but perhaps your or other people might get a different outcome...its kinda YMMV....I did very long, extensive and deep research/thought on this as to why I received such a small credit line of $1k despite of picture perfect credit, and only conclusion I came to was that it was about the recent inquiries at that time, at least in my case. Thus, I personally don't believe that WF is a relationship kinda bank.
Janneman, I couldn't thank you enough for your reply. I agree with you that WF is not a relationship bank. I know NFCU gives much larger SL's but I was more than angry when I got the 1K from WF. I had been so, so careful as I have always been. I was appalled when I took a HP for 1K. I'm sorry all of that happened to you. I think I'm just going to move my money, maybe to BofA, or anywhere else you might suggest, keep the card until the 0% APY terminates and then good-bye WF. Never again. Thanks again and take care.

@Seat6f, lots of folks swear by BofA; I'm not one of them, I find them to be highly predatory.
If one is looking for a big national bank, my preference would be to direct them to Chase. If you have no need for a national bank, many regional banks are great when it comes to relationship building. I'm in the northeast and love banking with TDBank if you're anywhere in their area.
