@AndySoCal wrote:@ElvisCaprice I hope this will take some of the confusion out of Walmart One Pay. The link is below

For me I was a Walmart + customer before the card came out so it was an easy dicision to make.
The key to the dicision is will the spending of around $100 to become a Walmart+ customer worth it.
It would seem that article doesn't make aware of all the options and different account types at onepay. Only speaks of the Onepay Rewards card and fails to mention the Spend version with no rewards, especially on the preapp/app. Terribly misleading.
OnePay Credit Card Application Process
No, you’ll automatically be considered for the OnePay CashRewards Card when you apply. Based on your application and Synchrony’s review, you may be approved for either the CashRewards Card or the Walmart Spend Card. You won’t be able to choose between them.

I've been very wary of poking the sync bear, but I use Walmart+ delivery quite often, so I figured I would chance it. I did do the pre-qual the other day, and it said I was eligible for the Mastercard. I never gave it much thought because I was under the impression they would try to approve me for the Mastercard first, then drop down to the spend card if I didn't. Well, I got approved for a 3k spend card, and I don't think I was even considered for the Mastercard. It would have been nice to get the rewards, but I will still use it.

Venmo debit set to Walmart bundle. DD of $500 makes it 5% cb $2k month cap. Better deal IMO
Agree, if your not already MS ing Venmo along with Paypal for full rewards. Plus the op may need the credit carry, over the prepay debit + direct deposit for Venmo. Not everyone has the same cash flow abilities.
What very little spend I place @ Walmart these days, I just use my AVEN @ 5% cash back (next 10k), all spend. And that's another thing about Walmart I don't like, you can't use Google Wallet or Apple Pay. You have to use their stupid app. Thus I just use my hard copy CC @ Walmart. Walmart should allow for both. In the end they will have to or end up loosing more business.

@ElvisCaprice If you are a Walmart+ customer you will get the 5% card if not you get 3% it is that simple.

This is incorrect. True, if you get the rewards version. Not true if you get the Spend version. The op got the Spend version, thus no rewards, regardless if they get or don't get, the Walmart+ membership. It's not that simple and there are plenty of posts on Reddit that attest to this. Like this one BE CAREFUL when applying for the one pay cash rewards credit card : r/CreditCards
OnePay offers two credit cards in partnership with Synchrony. The CashRewards Card can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted, while the Walmart Spend Card is limited to purchases at Walmart. Consumers can apply online at Walmart.com, the Walmart app, or in Walmart stores.
The OnePay Credit Card program includes two card types, each with its own benefits:
CashRewards Card
Can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted
Offers cash back rewards in the form of OnePay Points:
5% back at Walmart with a linked Walmart+ membership1
3% back at Walmart without a linked Walmart+ membership1
1.5% back everywhere else Mastercard is accepted
Points can be redeemed for cash back to a OnePay Cash account or other available options
Walmart Spend Card
Can only be used at Walmart and Sam’s Club (in-store and online)
Does not include a rewards program

Congratulations! I've been trying for this card without success for about 9 months. But Sync is weird with some people as you probably know. Sync approved me for several cards, but will not graduate my Amazon secured card to a store card after 3 years. I suppose the same will be the case for CLI's on the Sync cards I do have, so with their low limits, I suppose they'll be useless for not only larger purchases, but to also in demonstrating to other lenders I can handle larger credit lines. At this point I can't image they'll ever give me anything close to $3k, so again, congratulations!
I find the preapproval tool for this card to be very fickle. Sometimes it will show me the Mastercard version, and sometimes the spend card version, even on the same day.

Nice. Congrats on your approval. Enjoy your new card.

I got this in the mail today. Per the fine print, your initial limit will be at least $500 if approved. The only mention of the Mastercard is a generic line about the welcome bonus.

Walmart did over $713 billion in revenue last year. That's up from the previous year and just barely behind Amazon, despite AWS revenue. Their market share is growing faster than Amazon's, too. I think they are doing just fine and don't need to cater to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
