I applied for the Wells Fargo Autograph card and while I was prequalified, I was denied due to too many inquiries. Three months ago, I was looking at buying a used car. I went to two dealers and had them pull my credit so I could get an accurate estimate of my monthly payments. Although I never did buy a car, it resulted in 12 credit inquiries during a 10 day span. While my FICO score only saw it as 1 inquiry, my actual credit report saw it as 12. The rejection letter said they pulled my credit report from TransUnion and I had a 768 FICO score.
I called Wells Fargo at 1-800-967-9521 and spoke to a customer service rep. I asked for a reconsideration and explained that I didn't take on new credit, I was just shopping around. The rep was very nice, said that the system probably automatically rejected me because I went past their inquiry threshold, and passed my information to a credit underwriter. The next day I was approved with a credit limit of $30,000!
Wow great SL and congrats on what turned into a approval
