This approval post is starting with a denial story. Since Barclays has made the Uber card rather worthless, I thought I would try my luck with the Wells Fargo Propel Amex. Applied online and received the “We need to verify a few pieces of information...” wording. So I waited and received a letter a few days later with a denial. Score was listed as 725 and reasons listed were:
-Ratio of credit bureau trades with a balance greater than zero (This is odd as I practice AZEO and let the reporting card only report <8%. With $117k in credit lines across all of my cards, I don’t understand the logic here).
-Number of revolving bank cards reported by credit bureau. (Ok, I guess I have too many open cards for them).
The next day, I received an “invitation to apply” for the Cash Wise card in the mail. I know these are just advertising, but I went ahead and tried anyway. Got the same “we need to verify info blah blah blah” wording, so I wrote it off as another denial.
Now on to the approval...Today, 5 days later, I received an email stating that the Cash Wise was approved for $4.5k (although I wish it was $500 more to make a Siggy card) and I was surprised. I guess that the underwriting requirements for the Propel and the Cash Wise are different.
In the end, I’m just glad to have another relationship with a major bank. I do have a checking account with them that I opened for the bonus. I did have a previous checking account with them years back that was open for like 6 years with no issues. This is the first credit product I’ve had with WF. Hopefully it will grow. What are CLI’s and product changes with WF like?
Thanks for reading. ![]()

Thank you
Is WF usually pretty stingy with their SL’s? I’ve never really looked at them much.

Same reasons as my WF Visa Sig denial! They do explain the non-zero thing is over a 6 month period. Do you rotate the non-zero card? If so, they would have seen a few cards with non-zero balances over that period.
Congratulations on your approval!!!

Good point! Yes, I do rotate them. Some get more rotation action than others though. Still a lame reason! 😆

Congrats!
I got a mailer from WF recently too but didn't succumb lol.
Anyway, 4.5k isn't a bad limit at all. Enjoy!
Congrats!!
