Long story short, I started building credit with cards 6 months ago (Had 3 years of student loans prior) so I can get a car loan out of college and hopefully mortgage when I pay down my student loans.
So I have a CapitalOne Quicksilver Platinum Visa at a $500 (started at $300) and I have not been able to get a a CLI at all. So I tried to get their BuyPower card a month ago and got rejected for that. Fast forward to yesterday, I applied for the BBVA card and got approved for $5k so I decided to try my luck with one more card. I applied to the CapitalOne Venture Rewards fully expecting a reject like "Too many inquiries, not enough credit history, blah blah blah" But I nearly had a heart attack when I saw a $10,000 CL listed. I am absolutely shocked because I always knock on CapitalOne for being so stingy, but then they approve me for a card that was half my available credit before approval. I know it's not the highest CL and not the most interesting story but I found it very amusing.
I hate CapitalOne with a passion, but I love them at the same time.

That pretty much sums up Cap One. I've had my Journey for 4 years and they have only given me a CLI one time of $1000 and nothing else. I run tons through it each month and always pay in full. They won't even PC it to another card (although I inquired with EO yesterday and they are going to get back to me about that so we'll see). Last week I too was approved for a 10k Venture... Cap One is a weird love/hate thing but I guess we gotta take it leave it!
Congrats on the approval ![]()
Oh yeah and did I mention my total credit line was barely over 2k when they approved me for a 10k Venture... LOL
Congrats on that nice SL.
Congrats on the awesome approval!

What was your credit utilization at time of app?
I have a good bad story too.
I constantly harped on C1 myself because of a GM World Elite MasterCard with only a mere $600 limit that also wasted a HP just trying to get the poor thing lifted to some respectable limit that would make it useful. Never happened so after a year of laboring over it i decided to close the thing permanently and thought i was done with Cap One. But then i bit on the Venture Card too and just like you, much to my utter shock
was approved for a 10K SL.
So Big Congrats! on your own Capital One adventure!![]()
Thanks guys!
@tonyjones
My utilization at time of app was about 1%
@applurker
Yeah, it's funny cause it seems like you're being punished for having a card with them.
@CreditMagic7
I was honestly about to close my Quicksilver after next year if I didn't get it to atleast $1k to match my lower cards and stop doing business with CapitalOne. Very happy that I decided to reapp for another card now; although I was really worried about wasting another HP.

Seems to be a trend that you can app and get approved even with derogs and high inquiries, as long as credit utilization is low. Seems to be a determing factor with every lender ha
I apped for their Journey and got $2k yesterday which shocked me, then I went for the Venture and $15k. My previous credit limits were $500 on my own card which wasn't reporting yet and $15k on my AU US Bank.
Congrats..
