Well I've only been here a few days but have been reading about credit for about a year now. My husband and I have been working on our credit for almost 4 years. Both started in the low 500s. We bought a house in 2011 (by the skin of our teeth!) and it snow balled (positively) from there. I've been seeing everyone post about the NFCU cards and my little brother just joined the Navy about 4 months ago. He had just gotten a car loan with them, low rate, even with no credit and very small income. So I thought I'd give it a shot, we have a few thousand in CC debt I'd like to consilidate and pay off in the next 12 months. Instantly approved for....20k!!! What?! That over doubles our current highest card (Home Depot, 9.6k). I'm so happy because it will make my life SO much easier to have one payment a month and the rate is awesome compared to our other cards (11.74%).
Thanks myFico community! I never would have thought to apply with them if I hadn't been buzzing around here!

Fantastic start limit, congrats on your NFCU card
Grats and welcome to NFCU.
They are GREAT for people with not so stellar credit. Glad you could take advantage. They are definitely one to grow with!
As Credit Addict would ask....did you try for the Line of Credit...NavCheck I think it is called. It is basically an overdraft for your checking. Ask for the full 15k, and if they cannot give that they will most likely counter. Although with your approval for 20k I wouldn't see why they wouldn't give you the full amount!!
Grats again!!!
No, I've seen about that...what exactly is it? I thought it was a loan, not an overdraft?
Not sure if we will be moving all of our banking over. We are part of a local CU that we are happy with and we JUST got settled in and transferred all our bills/info. Our car was stolen in January with a checkbook inside so we had to start all over (we were with WF) and it was a royal pain in the rear. Never want to do it again.
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.
NavCheck is their checking overdraft. You can get up to 15k on it.
I may be wrong, but I think you can get that with $0 in the Checking account. You just open up like an everyday checking, and then request it.
I think I read in the NFCU long thread that it can be done that way.
But if you have a good relationship already with a CU then you may not want/need it. I know a lot just get it for that extra trade line and helping with overall utilization.
Grats btw
Oh we definitely wouldn't need it anytime soon. Good to know though, if we ever do in the future. The thought of having to move all our bills and auto drafts and transfers again makes me nauseous. Although, I am considering actually USING the savings account we had to open to get the CC. I kinda hte having savings tied too closely to checking....when transferring back and forth can be done with one click, it's easy NOT to save...
1. Welcome to the wonderful Navy Family!
2. Yes you can get the Overdraft Line with no money in checking and it reports a great $15k line on your credit report which is nice.
3. Since you mention BT and paying some debt and you have good credit and a history with Chase, I would look at the Chase Slate as it has no BT fee like the Navy but has 0% for 15 months... as much as I LOVE Navy, why pay interest at all if you don't have to!
congrats
congrats! just got approved for 25k as well, lol.
