so DW only has a secured card she opened through our CU several months ago. she doesn't have any credit history. we tried ordering the 3 score and reports combo here on myfico and we got refunded the payment because customer service said that based on TU, she has not had her SS for 24 months yet. she's actually had it for almost 3 years now. but in any case, myfico csr said there was nothing to be done except wait for her credit file to grow with her secured card. csr said if we can't pull TU, chances are, myfico will not be able to pull the other two reports and score. bummer. a couple of days ago we tried applying for a discover and cap1 card. both denied. tonight, we figured what does she have to lose....pulled the trigger for the amex Blue card.
for someone who, earlier this week, we couldn't determine if she has some sort of credit file or not and getting denied for a cap 1 starter card...INSTANT APPROVAL with amex tonight! i about slid off the couch and almost drop the lappy. took me a long time to get in with amex...and my wife gets in just like that and she's not even excited as i am....and its not even my card!! LOL! but im proud of her though for getting in with amex...with a revolver at that! i've read that revolvers were a bit harder to get approved for compared to charge cards. even though we couldn't get her myfico scores, her getting amex as her real card means that her credit profile ain't too shabby

yeah...i told her that's it. the next big thing is wait for her secure card to be unsecured. but no more apps most likely 'til 2015. she doesn't want too many cc's like i do, she said. i want her to build a relationship with amex and to start using the card every time she goes to costco. hopefully between now and the 61st day, amex will like her usage on the card. she plans to use it all the time and make payments each week. told her if she does that, she's a shoe in for the 3x cli
