thanks. DW is excited to get the card. she's been complaining about having to pay cash each time she goes to costco.

Awesome! If you don't mind me being nosy, what was her limit?

her online account was finally set up. she was given the amex "lets test out the water" starter limit of $2K. but with the way she handles her unsecured card paying off balances each week, i think she'll be a shoe-in for the 3x cli in 61 days.

so DW only has a secured card she opened through our CU several months ago. she doesn't have any credit history. we tried ordering the 3 score and reports combo here on myfico and we got refunded the payment because customer service said that based on TU, she has not had her SS for 24 months yet. she's actually had it for almost 3 years now. but in any case, myfico csr said there was nothing to be done except wait for her credit file to grow with her secured card. csr said if we can't pull TU, chances are, myfico will not be able to pull the other two reports and score. bummer. a couple of days ago we tried applying for a discover and cap1 card. both denied. tonight, we figured what does she have to lose....pulled the trigger for the amex Blue card.

for someone who, earlier this week, we couldn't determine if she has some sort of credit file or not and getting denied for a cap 1 starter card...INSTANT APPROVAL with amex tonight! i about slid off the couch and almost drop the lappy. took me a long time to get in with amex...and my wife gets in just like that and she's not even excited as i am....and its not even my card!! LOL! but im proud of her though for getting in with amex...with a revolver at that! i've read that revolvers were a bit harder to get approved for compared to charge cards. even though we couldn't get her myfico scores, her getting amex as her real card means that her credit profile ain't too shabby Smiley Happy

Congrats!

not to rain on your parade, but the Blue card is VERY easy to get approved for (I got it with only 7months of credit history).

If your wife wants to, she can immediately call AMEX and request a product transfer to Blue Cash Everyday, Blue Cash Preffered, Blue Sky or Blue Sky Preffered. Those cards are SOOOOO much better than the Blue card.

Re: amex blue for DW!!

From my observations, AmEx is easy to get when you are just starting out on the credit history bit. I got an offer when I was 18, but stupidly never took it. I had no credit history at that point.

I think AmEx is like the law: Creditworthy until proven otherwise.

Awesome start! And ignore the detractors, a win is a win!
