It's for 6K spend in 6 months. This card is really not for my type of spend. If I cancel after 1 yr what's the worst thing Amex will do? No more offers going forward?

yeah, you might be/end up in "pop-up jail" which means no SUB for future cards, but as long as you keep the card for the full year, you're okay to cancel it after and not pay the second AF
Yeap agree with the above, also you could always downgrade to Gold / Green, and they might throw another SUB at you to re-upgrade back for year 2.

There's really no downside to a SUB like that even if Plat isn't your kind of card long-term. As already mentioned, you can quit it after the second AF posts or downgrade to Green (for a cheaper travel card) or Gold (if dining is more appropriate). I've been churning/upgrading all the biz and personal charge cards for a year now (except for personal Green's PUJ) and will only keep two unless I get fabulous retention offers: Plat downgraded back to Gold (which more than pays for itself with 4x dining and $240 in Uber credits), and Biz Green, since it has a $25k POT and reasonable interest rate/AF and will function as a good backup biz CC.
It never made sense to me that Gold has benefits Plat does not.
Charge $100 more for Plat and include all Gofd features.
Now that is an upgrade.
I want the Plat but rarely travel.

Be careful, AMEX changed their rules last fall. If you start with a Platinum card you will not be able to pick up the sub on a future Gold card. You can get both subs by going from Gold to Plantinum though. 150k MR points at $6k spend is one of the better offers out there. If you cancel the card before the next year's AF hits they will claw back the sub so be careful. You can always downgrade to the Everyday card or open a BBP card at no AF to keep the points. I have the BBP card, it get's the bulk of my off category spend at x2.
