2 AMEX Questions

Hi guys ....

I have a new amex charge card but i have a couple of questions hopefully someone can help me .

After i opened this new account with amex how long before they give me my sign up bonus points ?

My second questions. Is the check spending availability button. Is this an informal way of asking for a CLI ?

should i even be trying to use this feature so early in my amex career ?

First off, what card did you app for? When I apped for Zync, it took a full billing cycle for the 10,000 points to show, plus any additional I recieved through my spending.

Second, the "Check your spending ability" button simply tells you how much you can spend, all you do is input how much you would like to charge, and it will either approve you or deny you. There is not really a way to see what you can really spend, as the Amex cards generally are issued with NPSL (No Preset limit). I would recomend only using the button when you are unsure of whether or not a transction will be approved on your card.

Re: 2 AMEX Questions

Regarding your first question, I think it depends on the charge card. I have the Zync, and like the poster above, it took a billing cycle + some days for the 10,000 points bonus to post to my account. On the other hand, I've read one of TannerK's (a member with some nice ritzy cards) posts saying his points for the platinum card showed up really quickly after a call to CSR.

The check your spending ablility is not a CLI request in any way. It just shows how your "credit limit" on the charge card (so, not really a charge card haha).

Do NOT play with that button!!! It is not a toy and could sabotage your new relationship.

Re: 2 AMEX Questions

I disagree. The AMEX rep said use it to see if you will be approved for a certain transaction up to that amount. A few reps mentioned is a misconception that we penalize our members for using a tool that is meant to help them figure out how much they can spend.

Once or twice wont kill, but repeated use? not even the csrs can determine the notorious "triggers".

I agree that if you use it as intended then it shouldn't be a problem.   Hitting on it 10 times a day repeatedly is not advised.

Re: 2 AMEX Questions

If it is a credit card there is a seperate button for a CLI in which case it will say Request a Credit Limit Increase.  Just so you know.
