2 more statements for Cap One CLI!

Gardening is soooo difficult, but I have my first CLI coming up in another 2 billing statements.  You gotta love Cap One Steps Program, my Platinum will go up to $500 from $300 and my Sony Cap One will go to $750 from $500.  Hopefully this will help my credit score which as of recent AMEX Credit Pull 627 all across the board.

A cli doesn't increase your score if it doesn't reduce your util.

Re: 2 more statements for Cap One CLI!

my util. is under 20% right now, the increases would put me under 10%  most likely, that would increase the score right?

Yes, you will see an increase. I'd guess 10-15 points in FICO.

Regarding future CLI onthese 2 accounds, unfortunately, this will likely be your first and last CLI. Capital One is notorious for doing this. If you want higher limits, IMO it's best to garden these acounts for a year to build up your score then apply for somehing that will grow with you so you don't get stuck with toy limits.

I keep hearing about this steps program, is this just for their unsecured cards? Where can I get more info about it?

I believe so, you just have to ask the rep, my platinum card they told me right away about it, but the SONY Cap One I called and asked about the program. 5 statements on time and on the 7th statement you get an increase in your limit.

Re: 2 more statements for Cap One CLI!

Like those before me said this will probably be your first and last CLI with Capital One. I've had their credit steps platinum card for 14 months in A+ PIF standing and my score has gone up 100 points and they still won't approve me for a CLI. I've called the backdoor number and spoke to a few senior account reps and even they use the computer generated decision that you can call the regular number to get.

The bogus thing that happened to me is that I set up an automated ACH payment to pay my bill online using their website.. so I entered an incorrect account number by mistake but somehow the system took it as being valid and even posted the payment I made with it to my account. A few days later the ACH was automatically reversed, thankfully it didn't make me late since this was just one of the many payments I make over the course of the month to keep utilization low. However now when I ask for a CLI the system denies me due to 'One or more of my Capital One accounts have had a returned check.' Complete bull**bleep** and if it wasn't for AAoA I would cancel this card. I think they know most people are afraid to cancel due to these credit step cards being most peoples oldest account so they keep you at a low CL and collect their annual fee.

Overall though my experience with Capital One has been good and they were willing to extend me unsecured credit at reasonable rates/fees when nobody else would. Just pray that you never have an issue that can't be solved by an indian lady reading a script.

Re: 2 more statements for Cap One CLI!

The "Platinum" won't grow much after that, shame they call it that...should be against policy.  I got mine in feb, will get increase soon; but only reason why i'm keeping it is so my account age doesn't get jacked up yet.  I recently had lots of baddies drop off too, now i have a visa signature (5k) and rewards (7.5k)..  Having just one more credit card should help your score, after that they really don't do much.   GL, ur be high 600's soon!
