[3x/5x] Chase is coding Walmart in-store purchases as "Grocery" for Sapphire bonus points.

Currently working towards SUB on CSP, so I used it for an in-store purchase on 5/1 that just cleared this morning. Sure enough, I'm earning the recently-added 3x bonus points on groceries. Smiley Happy

I assume the CSR and Chase's various travel cards would all work as well, but I don't own them to test.

@Anonymous What type of Walmart store was it?  In my experience Walmart Neighborhood Markets always code as Groceries, while Walmart Supercenters do not.

Definitely a Supercenter. Has the entire works short of a Tire & Lube center.

That's interesting.  The next time I visit the Supercenter near me I'll use my CSR and see how it codes.

I went grocery shopping yesterday at my local Walmart Supercenter and used my CSR to see how it coded. As soon as it posts I'll report back here.

The closest Walmart here is a smaller store, not considered super but they didi just remodel a couple years back and expanded on Grocery.

Though I don't know if they change their MCC when that happens.

Since I PCed the the standard Sapphire I don't think I get the increased points. At least I'm earning 3% on the FU until July though.

I know the Walmart Super Center by my house used to code as grocery as I use to get the bump on my BoA Cash Rewards when I had it.

Chase IHG Premier coding as groceries in our closest WalMart Supercenter as of yesterday/2 weeks ago, CSP was not as of last week.  We don't shop there often, so may have changed with the CSP since.

Yeah I read on TPG, Targets and Wallmarts that sell grocieries inside the store would count as well. I was waiting for the email from Chase to confim, but it looks it already was confirmed by one of you.

Yep, it posted as groceries and it's giving the 5x.
