Re: A bit shocked by Discover Credit Line!

I read somewhere, if you have too much available credit with other lender, discover will low ball you disregard your good credit score.

Re: A bit shocked by Discover Credit Line!

Requested all my increases, from day 61. They always gave me 3K at a time. They declined one request and give me another 3K 2 weeks later.

Interesting.

How did you figure out the 61-day? I read quite a few threads about Discover CLI, most people said to request every 91-day. Is the first one could be earlier?

Re: A bit shocked by Discover Credit Line!

Maybe it was 91 days. Can't remember. I had to call the rep to verify info when I applied and he told me I was approved and gave me my initial limit. When I asked for a CLI, he told me when I could call back for one. Don't remember exactly now but it could have been 91 days

Re: A bit shocked by Discover Credit Line!

Thanks. Last question: did you pay in full? I plan to carry balance since it's 0 APR for 12 months. Not sure if that gonna affect my chance of getting CLI.

Doesn't matter. People who carry balances get CLI's. People who don't carry balances get CLI's. People who use the card heavily get CLI's. People who don't use the card get CLI's.

Yes. I always PIF. Someone else with experience with carrying a balance can chip in but not sure if it affects their decision!

Re: A bit shocked by Discover Credit Line!

I use the card heavily and carry a balance. (Zero APR until September) My starting CL was 10k and now it is 16k.  I haven't had it a year yet. It is one of my daily drivers and I love it!

Re: A bit shocked by Discover Credit Line!

I know now for a fact that some accounts are hard coded for 91+ days because i tried at 31+ days and nada.

Just today again (tried only last week) and after this month's regular statement cut which also reflects a PIF BT offer rolled for 60 days, and again nada.

I did speak with them last week after the first try at 61+ went nada and inquired to an APR reduction and the nice girl said try back in June which sort of confirms now that my own Discover account is tied to 91+ day SP CLI cycle so far.

Scores are in the 720-733 range and utility is 8%. Had this card since 2013.

Peeps with scores only in the 680's or so are reaping some pretty sweet increases lately. I am so jelly, grrrr they only do a $500 every 91+.

Re: A bit shocked by Discover Credit Line!

Sorry to hear but I'm not surprised, knowing what I know now about Discover. Though many on here sing Discover's praises, I just APP'd them on Thursday with a 748 EXP and a 722 EQ and got a big fat DECLINED. Pulled two reports at that! I received a "we need some more info so please call us" screen and thought perhaps it was just verification. Called and talked to a rep and they said too many new accounts and limited credit history. Yes, I have many new accounts in the last 5 months however I have other accounts that have been on my reports for 4 years now. Not impressed at all. They offered me a "joint account" and I said no thank you. She said please reapply after your new accounts age and we can reevaluate your credit for a card. I told her that with my scores and income (over 6 figures) that I shouldn't need a joint account and also, I wouldn't be inclined to apply with them again but thank you anyway!
