Re: AA from AMEX

That's another possibility, as now my Venture has a 10k limit because of the two account combinations. But nowhere is it reporting that limit. I did pull a 3-B report and everything is ok. And the 10k limit isn't even reporting yet. If that's how they are, I bet that makes some customers wonder if they want to stay an AMEX customer or not. I understand they get spooked sometimes by risks, but do I want to pay a $75 AF for a card with a 1k limit, especially since I hear most of their 1k cards take forever to grow, if at all? Sure, I love AMEX and the benefits that come with being their customer, but this? I'll fight it if at all possible. But if not, it could possibly steer me in the other direction. Sorry, that was my rant for the day lol.

So, I had combined two of my capital one quicksilver one cards that I don't use anymore, which are both about a year and three months old, to my Venture card so I would have a 10k limit. Well, as soon news of one of the '' closed and paid" accounts showed up on my experian alerts, two days later, AMEX reduced my credit limit on my BCP from 3.5k to 1k! I'm so infuriated! All I did was move limits and close two accounts that I do not use. I recieved an email from AMEX this morning with the info, also saying that I would get a letter about it as well. Should I call to explain my situation so they can review it?

Unless you have long history or high income,  Amex does not like 10k.  They did not AA me, but could not get cli.  Broke the card up into two, much better.

Can you please elaborate what you mean? 10K on one card? I have a (relatively) short history, low income, and a 10K Amex. They seem to love me so...

They do not care if it is on their card, they do not like it on other cards, especially flexible spending limit.

What is the evidence for this?  I've got Amex CLIs with several other cards > $10K Surely it depends on your CR rather than some fairly arbitrary number.

Income, and length of time profile established.  Reason code, until I broke my 10k card up. Then got cli.

OK, but since I (and I would guess many others) are counterexamples, I don't think that is real.   Presumably other things happened as well (even time passing) between the unsuccessful and successful CLI

Looking back, I've had at least 4 CLIs from Amex on different cards, and I have always had other cards with CLs in the $20Ks and $30Ks.

You have better profile, use your.cards more Smiley Wink, and higher income.

Re: AA from AMEX

Imperfect, I'm very suspicious of this claim (and of "Bank X in particular dislikes seeing Y on a credit report" claims in general). However, I can't consider counter-examples without specific criteria.

So what sort of "long history" and/or "high income" are you saying might be necessary to get a $10k+ CL from Amex when a person already has a $10k+ CL from another issuer?

My bet is that when the c1 card from which u transferes limit off of reported, they saw it as cap1 axing your limit for some reason and consisered you a risk and followed suit.

I'll definitely be following up with you guys when I get the letter. I may even call them before hand, as I am impatient

Re: AA from AMEX

I concur with the consensus. Wait for the letter to see their reasons. It could be just the way things on your credit report appeared as a result of these moves or it could be totally unrelated or it could be a combination of factors. I wouldn't call in before getting the letter. It is best to see what the letter says, gather your thoughts and prepare a cogent response, instead of trying to do it on the fly over the phone.
