Hi All,
I app'ed for AAdvantage MC and through this forum I called the "back door" number just to find out
that it was declined because a BK record - Discharged in June 2008.
My wife had a Citi card that was included in the BK so I am pretty sure that affects me as well.
So, this is where I stand as far as credit is concerned as of today.
- Not a single missed payment on anything since the BK.
- Got approved for Dell computers for $3000 with a FICO score of 750 about two months ago.
- Cards: Capital One Platinum MC - CL $2750
Capital One VISA - CL $ 300
BMW Card - CL $1000
Cars: 2 BMWs and with no money down! (bought at the same time!) - No problem there - ($125000)
Steady employment and household income close to $200K and still got declined.
What do you guys think of my chances? - a BK with Citi is the end of the story? Anything in particular I should be aware of when calling?
- any input will be greatly appreciated.
Getting this card would be really good since I fly American 90% of the time and have racked up 250K miles travelled in 9 years.
Thanks
I guess that BK 5 years ago is still too "fresh" for them.
Maybe you'll have to wait until July 2015 when it finally falls off your credit reports :/

I thought that the BK would stay on record for 10 years... and that would be 2018, or not?
Thanks CreditScholar...
yeah.. I am aware of the secure loans and all... but my fear has been what you just mentioned: to be on a blacklist and
have no shot at it again...

BK stays on your credit reports for 10 years, but lenders have their own internal records and will know if you've burned them specifically in the past.
For example in 2019, Citi will still be able to tell that you've burned them in BK. However another lender (say Amex who you didn't burn in BK) won't be able to tell, since they don't have internal records on you and can only go by what's on your credit reports.
Burning a lender doesn't always result in blacklisting, although it often does. Sometimes you can be removed from the blacklist if you paid back what you owed, but it's another case of YMMV.

I thought there was a category of bankruptcies that fell off in 7 years...?
Go with a Citi Secured card and put down at least 2k on that (thats the min credit line for an AA Product)
When it unsecures do a PC to the AA product you want.
This is what I am doing
