UPDATE: Finally got to speak with a credit analyst for about 13 minutes and after that he could NOT issue a card based on the following:
My case:
I asked if a review of my app was possible since my financial and credit life have been maintained with no bad marks whatsoever
since the BK. My FICO has risen to 750 (came in approval letter from last app). My employement stabilitity is above average.
Personal income of almost 100K with a hosehold of near 200K. Students loans on time... everyhing on time...
Stated that reason for this card would have been because of my AA travels... etc
The Good:
- He mentioned that he was seeing that all CC payments were made on time, including the auto loans totaling $2500/month! (3 cars)...but...
The Bad:
- BK, BK and BK - Citi is not IIB but he kept going back to the BK that had been takrn place 5 years ago. Inspite of my effort to redirect his focus
on to my post BK financial life.. (he asked to provided a fresh credit report if I found it to be inaccurate, to which I said that the BK is real, has been
there for the past 5 years and it will be there for the next 5.
- He mentioned one credit card being maxed out(true, should have paid it off before applying...) all others are low Util
- Also said that the there was not enough good to outweight the bad! -(At a loss with that), (With BK leading the way, I guess...)
The Not So Sure:
- I asked him few times that since the BK is going to be a perm fix for the next five years in my CR, whether or not I should only apply again when it falls off the record,
and he did not quite answer the question at all, repeating that even if I re-applied he would still not be able to approve it for the card because of
the BK and the one card high util on top of it, but never said "dont bother until your BK is cleared" or "try it again" or "give it up for good" answers...
- He never asked me about my salary or employment nor he asked for any proof that could substantiate my claims...
- He never rushed me nor gave me the slightest impression that he wanted to hung up! I felt like he was just waiting for a magic word or something..
So this is it folks.
I dont know what to make of it other than forget about it at least for now. Their money in the end.
Hope this can assist others here on and any after thoughts are very welcome.

Sorry to hear but i applaud you for the effort. It never hurts to recon! Citi is a tough cookie to crack when it comes to recon. You are doing excellent btw! If you didnt include Chase in your BK maybe you should give them a shot and see, they are good with recons and actually people have gotten approved despite BK in history. Good luck and keep us posted if you do proceed.
Thanks dodgerslv.
I will keeping doing the right thing and time will take care of it.
I never thought that it would have been possible to come back from a 618 FICO after BK to whatit is now.
I applied for United Chase online and received the "will need time to review" my application and I
should hear back within 30 days. Should I call them after few days to find out and then recon if necessary?
Well, at least I am not getting the boot within 20 seconds of submitting the app online like before...

I would call them tomorrow if i were you (only cuz i think their recon dept may be closed for the day already). Just be ready to explain anything they may ask about your credit report. Tell them you really like the rewards the cards bring and for them to give you a chance to built a long lasting relationship with them. Seriously, call them since you took the HP already. Good luck and keep us posted.
First and foremost, thank you all who took the time to offer some thoughts and recommendations
about my case.
SUCCESS!!!
Well, this time around I called Chase's back number (recon) and spoke with a very polite and nice woman.
We had a very pleasant conversation where she asked me about the circuntances surrounding my BK. I explained it
in details very clearly and firmly. I also offered to provided any doc supporting my statements. We talked about my
job, open lines of credit, etc... she asked me if she could put me on hold and went to present the "big picture" to the
credit analyst... she came back after awhile congratulating me because I had been approved for the United Chase card! Whoohoo!!
The CL is just 2K, but she say that I can ask for CLI anytime (I'd rather wait a bit anyways). It was not much monetarily but
worth a lot to me since this puts my foot in the door (I have learned to be very patient and wait for my time over the years).
Grateful that I was given a shot to develop a long lasting relationship with Chase. Needless to say I am very happy
and grateful for it.
All of that would not have been possible without all the info I was able to gather here and the help from some of you.
Thank you again.
