AMEX AU Question

I was approved for an AMEX BCP Card today. This is my first AMEX card, so I'm a new member. I just set up my online account, but when I tried to add my husband as an Authorized User, I received a message saying they couldn't provide a decision right away (I believe it said it could take up to 14 days).

My husband has never had an AMEX account, but his credit reports are frozen. When I called and asked if his frozen credit reports were causing the delay, they said his credit wouldn't be pulled and seemed to indicate it was normal to wait 2-3 days for an AU to be added to your account.

Is this typical when adding Authorized Users to AMEX? How will I know when he's been added?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Re: AMEX AU Question

Since he has never defaulted with AMEX he will eventually get approved the AU requests just take a little time of up to several days. I wouldn't worry too much; more than likely your and your husband's cards will arrive together in the mail once they get sent out.

Re: AMEX AU Question

It's a bit different than my experience adding a AU because I had my cards for about a month before adding anyone.

The process was pretty seamless and after I put there information in it told me to expect the cards to be delivered in a few days basically. I called right after just to make sure I did it right and the CSR told me everything was good to go and if I wanted to add them to any other cards.

Even though they seem to encourage adding AU's right when you get the card it seems doing so might cause a delay of sorts. I would just chalk it up to the fact that the cards brand new and that your husband will get his card when you do like mentioned above.

Re: AMEX AU Question

Yeah, I agree with Sugarpixie that it might have been a bit different had you added your husband after having the account open for awhile. If this had been a rush situation a simple call to customer service would have him added to the account and card sent out within 24-48 hrs to whatever address you needed it provided you had your card in hand.

Re: AMEX AU Question

Thanks for your feedback, guys. I probably should have waited until I had my card to add an AU--I was following the prompts while setting up my online profile, and it invited me to add an AU--but it sounds like it will hopefully work out in the end.
