AMEX AU

I won't be apping for anything for a long while, but I was wondering if becoming an AU on my grandfather's AMEX charge would benefit in any way? Would it help me as you guys say "get in the door" for future reference? He's a real organized and well off person and pays off everything. He's pretty much one of those people that if he wants something he can just go get it without a second thought and after talking to him about my rebuild he was proud of me. Even at 29 that feels great to hear. But I'm rambling sorry...lol. Would it provide me with any benefit to be added to his AMEX as an AU?

It will definitely help. But it may be a good idea if you keep the card in your sock drawer--if your grandfather is so organized he may want to retain full control over the TL.

Re: AMEX AU

Was just asking about becoming an AU. I actually don't plan on using the card at all. I have my own cards I can use for my spending. Wanted to know if it would even help or aid with possibly getting my own AMEX down the road.

Re: AMEX AU

Amex ACMs do not inherit the history of the primary cardmember.  It would be treated as a new TL for you the pyts, CL will begin to report based on your MSD.

If you are planning to add an Amex of your own, the benefit of the backdating will be valuable.

Re: AMEX AU

Being an au on an Amex does help get your foot in the door with Amex. I had applied for a green charge and got declined I got added to a amex card as a authorized user I applied for a delta gold and got approved for 5k 28 days after being declined for a charge card.

+3

All you're doing is locking in your MSD with them, once setting up the AU card. Gonna look brand spanking new on your CRs.

Good thing is that once you apply for your own individual card, it'll backdate to the year you established the ACM, which looks really pretty when you can add five to twenty years of AAOA...
