AMEX CLD?

I have been with AMEX for almost a year with their Gold Card.  A few weeks ago I received a revolver - their Gold Delta Skymiles with a $2K CL.  I used it for the first time on a trip last week, but the activity has not posted to my account yet.  When I signed on, though, it said "Available Credit $460"!

Is this something they do with a new revolver until a payment is made?  Have I been CLD'd?  I hope not - I want to get a CL in a few months and make this my primary card.

Nothing has changed dramatically on my CR.  I have two other prime cards - one with a $10K CL and another with 11K CL.  Very low balance on one as I PIF each month.

Any help is appreciated.  May have to call CS tomorrow and see what's up.

Re: AMEX CLD?

Did you check the pending transactions?

You mentioned you used it for travel... in addition to regular purchases, hotels and rental car agencies often put a temporary hold on your account for an amount higher than the actual charge to guarantee payment, or if you mess up the room etc.

These charges can be placed in addition to the actual charges for the service. For example, a hotel may put a $300 hold for a room in addition to a $250 bill.  Both charges would show up in pending transactions, but after a few days to a week, the $300 temp charge would drop off.  Pending transactions will be reflected in your available credit.

+1

I would do what alpf4 said, check your pending transactions, and also call AmEx, they will be able to tell you everything I'm sure.

Best of Luck and keep us posted.

Your available limit is reduced by the amount you've used, regardless of whether the transaction is showing on the account yet.  If you make a payment, it will increase it again.

Re: AMEX CLD?

It's more than likely just the pending transactions that have yet to post. On a side note, I would suggest that you make every every effort to PIF even though it's a "revolver". Carrying such a high balance so quickly can freak Amex out and you may possibly see that CLD that you were worried about.
