AMEX CLI....a hard or soft pull?

I've had my Delta SkyMiles AMEX Gold now for 66 days.  I have read people saying to attempt a 3x CLI at day 61.

I want to do that tonight, however I'm closing on a home on Wednesday.  My loan officer has explicitly told me DO NOT apply for credit or loans until after the closing.  I however assume she means new credit or accounts.   I am safe to do a CLI for my current accounts, yes?  It's just a soft pull, yes?

SP but what's a few days wait until closing

Always follow LO's instruction because it would be sad if Amex changed policy yesterday and we didn't know and you're the 1st HP

What's the hurry it's not like you won't have the same option?

Congrats on the new home

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

You're absolutely right.  Thanks for being the voice of reason.  I'll wait until Friday.  Who knows, maybe being a home owner instead of a renter would result in a more favorable result?

When they hand you the keys say:

Ummm excuse me but do you have a computer I can use I need to check my email for important business

Log in to Amex and hit the CLI button Lol

Don't forget to say thank you for the use of the computer the next closing person is also a Amex customer waiting to do a SP CLI request Smiley Wink

Good luck on the CLI request

I'm laughing because I pretty much did the same thing.

Not only was I cautioned not to app for anything, but also to watch util and not charge anything out of the ordinary.

The house I bought needed appliances (long story), so the loan officer gave the OK to app for a Lowes card and get a stove and refrigerator, as they were considered necessities (I "rented" the house for about a month before closing).  They wouldn't OK the washer and dryer and I was paying over $10 a week at the laudromat, so I strongly considered going to Rent-A-Centre to get a washer and dryer for $20 a week, as it wouldn't report to the agencies.

The day of closing, I left the title office, and immediately went and bought the washer and dryer. Before stopping back at the house, taking down the sold sign, anything, I was out getting new credit.

My LO told me that since Amex uses an existing SP that the CLI was no problem

Amex usually uses a SP for a CLI, but it would be a shame to mess up one of the largest purchases of your life if you happen to be one of the few exceptions (and there are a few around here).

If it's just a matter of waiting a few days until after your closing, what can it hurt?  My life is 'exciting' enough as it is... LOL Smiley Wink

(I've also personally had a mortgage fall though a week before closing, so perhaps I'm more cautious than many people.)
