AMEX CLI question

Today I logged into my amex account and it showed avalible credit of 2.6k. I have a balance of about $300 and some pending charges. the weird thing however is that I only have a 2k credit line, and I dont recall doing a CLI request, last one is declined. My question is, could this be a CLI to 3k or aut CLi to 3k or why is my avalible credit so high. I dont have any holds or anything like that or any large payments that are pending. Has anyone have experience with Amex to know if this is just part of the process to get a CLI.

PS called amex and the lady does not know, nor do three of the departments she talked to.
also the amex spending checker says I can spend the max of the avalible credit which is more than my credit line.

Sounds like you got an automatic credit line increase. Smiley Wink

Mine had showed screwy before...saying I had an extra 2-3k in available credit available. It fixed itself the next day. Hope you got a CLI in your case!

Hey luke, it's common for CC lenders (irrespective of bank, AMEX, VISA, etc) to give CLI to lines under 5K.  Most of them in my experience will cap off around the 5K - 7K mark and tend to make the CLIs in intervals of 3 -12 months. Don't panic over the CLI, as a soft pull increase is great. But be weary that it does have it's limitations and you don't want to depend on automatic increases when trying to achieve higher spending limits. Congratulations!

How long ago were you declined for you CLI?

Might be a sign it's time to ask again!

Last time I asked for an increase was very early December, but an Update to this the weird avalible credit thing went away and now shows the correct amount of credit for a 2k limit. It took like 3 days though for it to be fixed.
