AMEX CLI

On August 15, 2011 I requested a CLI from $2k to $4k (though I think the CSR thought I was asking for a $4k increase, and not an increase to $4k) and was denied.  I had planned on re-requesting exactly 60 days from the denial, but I forgot and am only remembering about it now.

Do you all think it's worth a shot now or do I have to wait 6 months from the date of the most recent denial (8/15/11)?

Re: AMEX CLI

I believe you have to wait 90 days after a denial, but 6 months after a CLI to request another.

Ok thanks.  I've read 30, 60, and 90 days here (after a denial) but haven't really gotten a definitive answer.

Re: AMEX CLI

I was denied a credit limit increase because I was about 3 days away from exactly 6 month from my last credit limit increase.  then, when the 3 day passed and I actually hit the 6 month mark, I ask for a cli again and was granted.

Re: AMEX CLI

Have anyone had success in requesting a CLI after 61 days and than another one before the 6 months date? or the rule of thumb is to ask for your 1st CLI after 60 days than wait another 6 months to request a CLI. Reason I ask is because I received a CLI after 60 days but I want to request another increase before the 6 months to help out my UTIL % and increase my CL. Don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing in OP eyes but my goal is to avoid apping for a 2nd Amex card to take another hard hit and just work on getting more credit cause Amex do soft pulls for CLI. My EX plus score is 747 (not fico) and I am wondering if Amex will approve the increase or will their system just declined me base on their policy.

Anyone with some infor.....thanks in advance!

To be sure....go by your activation date than count to 61 from there or wait til after the 2nd statement cut. To be sure, check your credit report and see what date you took a hard hit from Amex to the day you got the approval noticed by email or through their website.

Do you recive a congratulation letter for CLI? I don't have AMEX cards so don't know for sure. If it has, believe that would be eaiser way than counting days.

I don't see why they would grant one in 4 months instead of six.  The policy says six, but you could always call and ask.  Let us know if you find out different.

Side note, are you using "OP" for other people?  I was trying to figure out why you were saying that it might be a good or bad thing in the original poster's ("OP") eyes.

I think there might be a difference between a denial because you asked too early when you weren't eligible and a denial for other reasons.  But not sure about that.
