So the general rule of thumb is 60 days after a denial, 6 months from most recent CLI, and 6 months from your activation date?

I don't know about the denail. But you can get a CLI on a new account 60 days after activation. After that, it is once every 6 months. Also, the once every six months rule is for all accounts. So, I do not know if this scenario is possible (and maybe this bears on tntexans question above):
Say you requested a CLI 2 months ago and it was granted. Now you apply for a new account. Do you have to wait 4 months for the next CLI, or can you request a CLI on the new account within 60 days?

Reason I ask is because I received a CLI after 60 days but I want to request another increase before the 6 months to help out my UTIL % and increase my CL. Don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing in OP eyes but my goal is to avoid apping for a 2nd Amex card to take another hard hit and just work on getting more credit cause Amex do soft pulls for CLI. My EX plus score is 747 (not fico) and I am wondering if Amex will approve the increase or will their system just declined me base on their policy.
Anyone with some infor.....thanks in advance!
I don't see why they would grant one in 4 months instead of six. The policy says six, but you could always call and ask. Let us know if you find out different.
Side note, are you using "OP" for other people? I was trying to figure out why you were saying that it might be a good or bad thing in the original poster's ("OP") eyes.
The original question is...if I have an amex card, got my 1st increase after 60 days....can I request another increase 3-4 months after the 1st 60 days increased? of do I have to wait 6 months after my 1st increase?
I have the card for a total of 5 1/2 months now, got my 61 days increased.....I wanna ask for another one to bump up my CL...the worst thing Amex can do is say no but I don't want them to red flag my account by asking for a CLI twice within 6 months of having the card.

Right. And I guess what I was trying to point out is that I don't see any ambiguity in the 6 month policy that would apply to your situation. So I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be 6 months. I could be wrong, though, so if you find out, please do update. Here's the language from Amex's site:
"We do not increase an account's credit limit during the first 60 days after it has been opened, or for at least 6 months from the last credit limit increase. After that time has passed, if you are still interested in applying for an increased credit limit, you can check to see if you are eligible to change your credit limit online by logging into your account and going to your Profile & Preferences or you can call the number on the back of your Card to speak with one of our customer care professionals."
What I couldn't remember was whether there was some ambiguity on the 60 day rule for a new account, but reading the above, it seems pretty clear. I'd think you'd have to wait 6 months in either scenario.

If I had to guess, I would say 60 days on the new account, then 6 months after that for the next one.
Thanks for the info about 60 days/6 months.
Thanks all for your respond.......![]()
I would wait until the account has been open 6 months and then 6 months later! Don't push it and make sure you are putting a decent amount through the card!!
Good luck ![]()
From Opening of New Account: 61 days
From Last Successful CLI: 6 months
From Last Denial: 90 days <--- This one is confirmed by a conversation I had with AMEX's credit department.

Agreed from my experiences.
My next closing date is November 13 which would mean my second statement will drop. Have run about 4k through the card and both months were PIF.
So we shall see soon.
If I got a 2k line, should I ask for 6k or 4k
I think someone said 3x time your current line
