AMEX CLI

Does anyone know if AMEX gives automatic CLIs? I've been on this forum since September and I haven't seen anyone mention AMEX gave them a CLI, but then again, it seems like a lot of people on this forum have the charge card.

Re: AMEX CLI

Though I've never gotten one on my Blue, AmEx auto-CLIs do happen (or did, anyway; not sure if anyone's posted one recently); if you do a quick search on this board for "amex auto cli" you'll turn up some threads about it.  Smiley Happy

Re: AMEX CLI

No (for me), Amex doesn't gives auto CLI. You can request one CLI once every six month over the phone. The automated system gives you instant CLI decision. I heard you can request 3x of credit limit. I requested a CLI for my Costco Amex and I only asked for $2K CLI. They increased from $3K to 5K. By the way, did you see the credit limit increase on the bottom of the screen for your Amex credit card? I got one on my Blue( after 5 months since last request). I haven't requested CLI for my Blue and it only requested for my Costco Amex.

Re: AMEX CLI

Well what's funny when I had AMEX Starwood Preferred they wouldn't CLI at all. I asked and asked and always NO NO NO.  I product changed to Blue Sky Preferred and I got a 600 increase to 1200. Very strange.

It's still mediocre, but eh. I keep it since it's my 2nd oldest open account. *shrugs*

Re: AMEX CLI

Well, though it's been quite a few years (and prior to my bankruptcy), when i had an AMEX Blue Cash, all of my CLI were automatic.  I went from $1000, to $2500, to $7000, to $14,000, to $22,000 over the course of about 18months or 2 years.  Then I stayed at $22,000 for a long time until the big downturn with the market, and they dropped me to $800.  Smiley Tongue

Re: AMEX CLI

I got my Amex Starwood card in July of this year with a $2k limit.  In November I called in for a CLI and asked for $2k.  They approved it in seconds and now I have $4k on this card.  Don't know if tthey would have eventually done it on their own.  I just wanted it to match the lower limit of my other two cards.

USAA World MasterCard - $14,500
American Express SPG - $20,000
NFCU CashRewards Visa Sig - $20,000
PenFed Platinum Rewards Visa - $5,000

Re: AMEX CLI

Has it been six month since your last credit limit increase.  If it has, then you might have a "luv button" waiting for you.  I remember when the button showed up for me.  I increased my CL on my costco card to 5k from 2k.

Re: AMEX CLI

They never did for my hubby. His CL on his Blue is around 10k. Same amount they gave him when he opened it years ago. He's never been late on anything, FICO's over 800 and  no CLI ever.  It's his lowest CC. But he also hardly uses it.

Re: AMEX CLI

In 20 years of having various Amex cards, I've never gotten an automatic CLI. Just got word they approved me for the Delta SkyMiles gold card (which I only applied for to get 45,000 miles), but they took $7100 from my Blue Sky Card to do it. Maybe it's because I just got the Starwood card about 6 months ago(10k limit). They said they wouldn't be able to give a CLI on the Delta card now. It's all fine to me....plan to cancel the Delta card after a year and will then ask to restore the $15,000 credit line to my Blue Sky account.
