Re: AMEX CLI

My LOC for the Amex is 2k. The highest EVER that I received from any financial institution. I'm thinking that I may use 25-50 of the LOC for bills and purchases. I will probably use my other CCs but it won't be priority anymore. Smiley Happy Hope Amex will love me long time! ha ha ha.

IMHO- as an 2 Amex cardholders who was given very generous CLI's upon request after about 9 mos- 1yr do the following:

Get that one card under 10%
spend consistently and pay consistently in big payments

Give it at least four mos and then ask for 7,000.
You should get it just fine- don't be greedy, and unless there is something we or you don't know about  by April/May next year you should be good to go.

Be patient. I love Amex.

No problem. You will get there- just give it some time. Also, you can make more than one payment a month thru their website- that's what I do for Disc, Amex and Chase Freedom to keep them under 10%.
Actually, as of right now I am paying them all off by Christmas as having balances does not sit well w/ me anymore- even if they are zero percent.
I've come to far to get sucked into oweing again.

After my unwanted promotion into a new bucket, I decided to experiment and see what would happen if I PIF'd everything but the mortgage (duh), the larger student loan, and the HELOC. I chickened out though, because of something Timothy said about not letting them all be $0, and allowed $7.64 to post on the accursed Sears MC. This means that once Discover posts on the 18th, for my cards I will have 0.01462% util. And I really do have the decimals right. Smiley Happy

Take that, TU! Take that, snobby new bucket peer group! I figure TU will go up 2 or 3, EX will go up 1, and EQ will drop 14.

Re: AMEX CLI

Bringin this thread back. Hit the luv button today on day 31 of having my AMEX. This is what the CSR told me to do after I asked about it on activation. So after reading all the threads about people getting pretty good cli's I decided to shoot for $5000 from my $1000 limit. I have made about 6 payments on this card over the month and have used it alot. It has a 76 dollar balance on it right now only because I couldnt get a payment out fast enough but I really didnt think it mattered. I got the 7-10 day message....prolly a denial I bet. Ill call tomorrow and find out.

Re: AMEX CLI

I agree with Netpanther.

You have only had the card for 2 months.  You need to establish the relationship with Amex.  Use the card and PIF each month.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Repeat.

Amex has always been generous with my credit limits.  (I have a green, blue, and clear - the first one dates back to 1987)  I  have never requested a CLI....they just show up.   They will do periodic soft inquiries to see if there are any major changes in your credit life.  And, they will grant credit line increases without you asking.

Just my two cents.

Not to mess with your mind, but if you've got the money to cover it, you will do better with AmEx to put more than 10-20% on the card. They love to see you melt the plastic, as long as you PIF immediately. Once your online account is set up and running, you could use it for all your expenses that take AmEx and PIF weekly. That way you're sending several messages:
--I love my card!
--I can pay it off immediately!
--I need a higher credit limit!
