AMEX - CSR for Apping actually gave good info

On 3/4/12 I applied for AMEX Gold Delta card and was denied.  I don't have the reasons in front of me (letter was no longer accessible but AMEX is resending to me).  The reasons where collections, lates and no CC, if I remember correctly.  I have taken care of all of that except my lates and one paid off Verizon account (not in collections section).  Here is some excellent info I gathered from the CSR (Based on my file as he had it in front of him):

  1. It doesn't matter which AMEX I apply for, green/gold/zync, as my evaluation will be the same for each card so I was instructed to apply for the one I wanted (Im thinking this had to do with my income, 6 figures, and low Debt to Income ratio- 11%)
  2. Strongly urged to wait the full 6 months before reapping (not just the changing of the calendar, i.e.. wait at least 180 days)
  3.  EX will be pulled then their next preference is EQ and lastly TU
  4. With a score between 650-680 (Im probably around 620 right now once my CA falls off 7/10) he strongly urged me to reapp as I would be "80% likely to be approved." (His own words)  The closer to 680 then I would be even more likely to be approved.
  5. At time of reapping I told him I would have 2 negative accounts on my CR - my lates with Cap1 Finance and my Verizon account (Im still waiting on SM to GW 2 lates Smiley Happy )  He strongly urged to have at least one of these taken care of by time of reapping.

All in all it was a very helpful discussion and I appreciate the candor of AMEX CSR (Makes me want the card even more!)

Starting Score: EQ 551 TU 548 CK 607on 6/8/12, EX 542(AMEX pull 3/4/12)
Current Score: EQ 808 TU --- EX --- CK 804(FAKO-EX 821, EQ 823, TU 803)

Thats some great info, and I'm glad the CSR helped you out. I too have had nothing but great help from AMEX. I recently was approved for the Zync and have called to clarify a few things a couple times and they are always so nice and helpful. Same with Discover, I've only spoke with the CSR there once for a app Recon...even though she couldn't approve it she was really courteous, and helpful and told me to try back in 6mths or so.

Good Luck!

That's wonderful. It's so helpful to know in advance what it is that a particular issuer is looking for. Then you can decide if your credit profile is in the ballpark and waste fewer inqs. I hope that when you're ready to reapply that you're approved. Smiley Happy

Re: AMEX - CSR for Apping actually gave good info

Thanks.  I told the guy I was probably around 620 right now and I expected to be at least 650 by app time.  I was hoping to get to 680.  At 650 he said I was 80% likely.  Probably what I'll do is wait 1 more month and app in beginning of October.  If I get approved it would be perfect timing as I will be traveling at end of Oct for next 2.5 months for work and could really push a lot of funds through the card. (it would also allow me to avoid the Util hit).
