So I've got a couple of AMEX cards open right now - BCE, Delta, Hilton. They are all under 1 year and have lower limits. I successfully was able to reallocate some of my CL from Delta to the BCE but was required to leave $1k on the Delta card. I have a couple of questions:
1. Once the Delta is a year old, can I reallocate again only leaving $500 on the Delta?
2. If I close one of the accounts, can I request for that CL to be completely moved over to one of the other cards or do I lose that remaining credit line completely?
*** I am not able to simply request a CLI at this time as I have a Ch13 BKR reporting until March of next year. AMEX will not do a CLI if there's a BKR reporting.
TBH, I'm not sure why you'd want 3 cards from them. Then only want a CL of $500 on two. Just seems like a hassle to me, and ultimately renders them useless.
As for the question, I do believe it has to be one year for that. I've read varying stories on this subject with some who've been successful, and others who weren't.
Also yes for #2, you may want to do this prior to closing by 30 days to make sure it happens.
You will have to leave at least $500 on the card though, as that is their minimum. So in a sense you will lose the $500 on any account you close.
I was able to realocate some of my limit from my Hilton to my SPG recently and I havent even had both cards for 3 months yet.
I dont think AMEX enforces that 1 year rule but YMMV. Also, I think you have to leave at least 500 on the card you want to close.
Ditto on the $500 noted above. I just closed my Delta Platinum card. It had a $17k limit. I was able to move $16.5k to another card but had to leave $500 on the Deta Plat even though I was closing it.
On a side note, I'm curious if all those closed accounts with $500 CL have a negative affect? Say as opposed to higher CL, like $2-5K?
