I currently have the AMEX Delta Gold with a $12.5k limit. I have received 2 CLI's in the last 9 months due to heavy use of this card.
I am wondering if it would be wise to request an upgrade to the AMEX Delta Reserve and skip Platinum.
Thoughts?
My current scores are all over 750.

If the Reserve is a better fit for your spend and you're a true frequent flyer who would make use of the benefits, then I don't see why not. There's no rule that says you have to go through Platinum to get the Reserve.
Your scores shouldn't matter. There's no need to pull your credit to upgrade an existing account.

Given that you're capable of placing heavy spend on the card, before you request an upgrade you should consider checking a preapproval then applying for the Reserve outright if there's a high probability of meeting its SUB.
If/when the Delta Gold is more than a year old you can work to transfer the vast majority of the CL from the Gold over to the Reserve and then close the Gold. There is no restriction on holding both the Gold and Reserve simultaneously.

Also, one should never upgrade an AMEX card without an Upgrade Offer sent by AMEX for that specific upgrade. Because if you upgrade without a points / miles upgrade offer compensation, you box yourself out from future SUB on that destination card, whether upgrade or cold app. If you ask for the upgrade, I'm 99% certain they won't counter with "Wait, do you want us to give you 50,000 or 90,000 SkyPesos for doing this upgrade? Or you want the upgrade for no compensation?"
Excellent advice! Thank you so much!
